Employment and Life Skills Program
The program offers a series of workshops that help immigrant women plan and prepare for their future in Canada, i
ncluding training in:
- Resume Writing
- Interviewing Skills
- Networking
- Career Planning and Innovative Job Search
The program is offered free of charge and free childcare for participants with children 6 months - 6 years old is available.
Next session will take place at the
Genesis Centre every Tuesday for 8 weeks beginning
May 1, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.

Snapshot of Poverty: Presentation and Policy Consultation
Vibrant Communities Calgary is preparing to release Snapshot of Poverty
, a statistical representation of what poverty looks like in our city. Snapshot of Poverty
will help inform the inaugural policy briefs Vibrant Communities Calgary plans to present to the municipal and provincial governments. These documents will seek to recommend what can be done to reduce poverty in our city and in our province.

Women Lead YYC: Spring Applications Now Open

After the incredible response to the first edition of
Women Lead YYC , we are excited to announce we will be running a second installment of the program this Spring!
Women Lead YYC is a free program for women who want to lead, influence or participate in collective action in order to improve their community. The next session will meet six times on
Thursday evenings, between May 17 and June 21, 2018. Sessions will run from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm, and will cover topics like community organizing, strategic communications, movement building, connecting with allies, and addressing systemic barriers and root causes of community problems.

Social Issues Discussion: Migrant Caregivers
 |
Every year, thousands of people enter Canada as temporary foreign workers. Only a small percentage of these workers will be able to stay in Canada and become permanent residents or citizens. Women with temporary immigration status face unique challenges in Canada - including exploitation, sexual abuse, and long separation from family members.
On Wednesday April 4, 6-8 pm please joins us for Migrant Caregivers: The Impact of Temporary Immigration on the Status on Women. We will explore the migration experiences of women who enter Canada as temporary workers, specifically those who come to work as caregivers for children. This discussion will focus on the lived experience of these migrants and their experiences living and working in Canada.

Join Us on Marathon Day as Part of the Women's Centre's Team

There's still time to join the Women's Centre's team this year to run, or walk in support of women in our community!
On
May 27, 2018 the Scotiabank Marathon will be your opportunity to raise funds for our Direct Assistance program, which was accessed over 16,000 times by women last year to receive food and personal care items like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, tampons, and body wash.

Creative Circle | Thursdays, April 5, 12, 19 & 26 (6-8 pm)
Creative Circle is a drop-in free-time group for any woman to join. This is your chance to explore your creative side with other women over a cup of coffee. Work on anything you can think of; from colouring, drawing, knitting, embroidery, or more. Bring something you've been working on, or use supplies provided by the Centre. There will be a host to help guide the group and assist your work.
Environmental Issues Discussion:
Reusable Menstrual Products | Wednesday, April 18 (6-8 pm)
Have you ever wondered there were more environmentally sustainable menstrual product options? Come and learn about alternative menstrual products, the impact menstrual products can have on the environment, and try your hand at sewing your very own reusable menstrual pad to take home!
This is a conversational group where women have an opportunity to practice English for daily situations.
Drop-in basis; no sign-up required.
Boomerang Bags | Monday, April 30 (6-8 pm)
In this workshop, you will learn how to cut and sew reusable shopping bags using scrap fabric. You will get to take one home and donate another to the Boomerang Bag movement. Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of reusable bags - made by community using recycled materials.
