TSSB NEWSLETTER 12/28/17

TSSB Members and Friends in the kitchen preparing the meal at Ocean Park Community Center on Christmas Day.
38 TSSB volunteers joined Rabbi August to cook and serve to the residents of the the Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica. OPCC serves homeless individuals who are housed at the center, and given services to help them find housing and a job.

Rabbi August and the volunteers brought all the food, cooked and served a holiday meal to the residents of the center, homeless individuals who are housed at the center, and given services to help them find housing and a job.

The people we served told us it was the “best meal they have had in months,” and they appreciated all our time and efforts.

The children set the table, and served soup and plated dinners to each resident. They poured the juices, refilled plates and helped clear the tables at the end. The experience was meaningful for all participants. We served 40 residents at lunch and had enough for the residents who missed lunch to enjoy their meal at dinner.

We would like to thank the following Temple families for making the time to participate in the “Mitzvah” – the righteous act, of feeding the hungry and providing comfort to a vulnerable “at risk” population.
  1. Seth, Zac & Gabe Davis
  2. Caren, Jonathan Sophie & Caroline Greenhouse (and friends)
  3. Julie, Stu, Hatcher & Maddie Johnson
  4. Adrienne, Greg, Jacob & Jadyn Less
  5. Lorraine, Howard, Taylor, Skylar & Jonah Maycon
  6. Nancy, Affy, Sienna & Tristan Nehoray
  7. Amy, Ben, Ethan, Emma & Aviva Relles
  8. Carol Risher & Mike Machala
  9. Jody & Jack Waterman
  10. Rabbi August & Alan Klein

We want to thank Seth Davis for donating 30 new chairs to the OPCC. Their funding has not included replacing broken chairs, so some residents had to eat in shifts. What a great act of Tzedakah!

OPCC is also in need of 100 new sleeping bags. The residents are housed in a concrete building with no heat, and it gets very cold at night. There are almost 75 residents and the bags they use go with them when they leave. To join us in contributing to this worthy cause, please email  [email protected]. Another opportunity for a Mitzvah!

We look forward to other opportunities to help others. If you participate in a program that TSSB can join please email [email protected]
