January 2018 EWGA DC E-Blast
President's Message

We may be at the gym working hard on our New Year's resolutions, but our Chapter volunteers are also working hard to set everything up for our golfing season. We are like the ant in Aesop's Fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper, but the opposite: We work hard in winter, so we can play in summer.

Indeed, there is a lot coming up! Dulles Expo Golf Show next week.  Kick-off meeting. Play for P.I.N.K. (nailed down!). Out-of-Chapter Spring events.  All of these are already in motion, not to mention the work that goes into planning our own tournaments, Saturday events, and League contract renewals.

So while you're finishing up working off those holiday calories, open up your calendar and start jotting things down. That skirt/shorts season will be here before we know it.  Soon enough, monthly gym memberships can be put to better use such as green fees and, perhaps, some new clothes, which will be a size smaller, of course.

But don't get off that treadmill just yet - it's still the middle of winter.  Remember like in Aesop's Fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, slow and steady wins the race.

Likewise, our 2018 golfing season is slowly and steadily shaping up to be a great winning season!

2018 Play for P.I.N.K. Golf Tournament

Our Chapter is busy planning our 2018 Play for P.I.N.K. (PFP) Golf Tournament.  Ms. Kim Litherland is the Event Captain and has secured the Westfields Golf Course for this year's event.  The event will take place on August 26, 2018 with a 1:30pm shotgun start.   Mark your calendar now!

Last year, our Chapter raised a little over  $2,000 for this charity in which 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).  PFP shared that they presented the BCRF $4.6M in 2017 Our Chapter was a part of this noteworthy donation .  The donation allows PFP to support at least 18 research grants in 2018 and brings the cumulative contribution since 1996 to $52.8M.

Our Chapter's PFP Planning Committee has begun meeting to ensure everyone at this year's tournament has a great experience.  Our goal is to raise $3,000.  In addition to the proceeds from the actual tournament, our Chapter is looking to raise funds via other activities leading up to the tournament.  For instance, the Westfields Golf Course is hosting a  45-minute Golf Clinic on April 5th, at 5:00pm .  Half of the proceeds will be donated to our PFP fundraising effort.  Contact Kim if you are interested in participating.  Also, each of the League Captains will be asked again to designate one play date in which all monies collected for their PUTT POTT will be donated to the PFP effort.  Look for more information on these activities through your respective League Captain.

Finally, it is not too early to start forming a team, designating your team Captain, and determining your team name and team colors!!!  Registration information will be forthcoming via our PFP Flyer.   Don't wait - August will be here before you know it.

If you are interested in helping with the PFP planning efforts or volunteering on the day of the tournament, contact Kim Litherland at kimlith@hotmail.com

Have Some Savvy Technical Skills? EWGA DC Needs You!

Our Chapter is looking for someone to help build registration forms and reports for our leagues and events in the February-March timeframe before the season begins. Using the Online WuFoo Form Builder, you would create the fields for the forms, connect the payment system to the form and create reports that list the registration information for each registration entry.  We are looking for 1 or 2 ladies to help.  If you're interested, please contact Paula Renfro.
