Called To Care - Because the CROSS = LOVE

A Note From Pastor Linda

Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in." ~From Matthew 25

Dear Friends,

In our country today homelessness persists; people continue to live without housing within a society of abundance. The number of elderly people, women, and children among the homeless is increasing. Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Homelessness is a reality in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Homelessness is a reality in our community.

Homelessness concerns people, human beings created in God's image. The story of each homeless person is unique. The name, the circumstances, the decisions, the faith, the joys, and sorrows of each belong to precious individuals, to children of God.

Being homeless is being without -- without shelter, without resources, without support, without recognition, without power to influence society. Being "houseless" is lacking a permanent place to stay dry and warm, a place to feel secure, a private space. Simple survival becomes a full- time, humiliating task. People who are homeless often lose their sense of self-worth and their hope for the future. They feel cut-off and alienated from the rest of society.

HELP IS COMING  to the Hugo-Forest Lake area. A new home for families struggling with stable housing, formally known as Haven Home, now St. Andrew's Family Shelter (SAFeS) is located in Hugo at St. Genevieve's Rectory House, 14383 Forest Blvd. (Hwy 61 & Frenchman Rd). This shelter grew out of years of work and service by Forest Lake Area Mission for Families (FLAMF) and is now in partnership with the Community Resource Center housed at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi.

Hosanna has adopted a room - now we need to furnish a few essentials.  Can you help? Shop at Target Charity Registry. You can shop online HERE   or go to Target- Hosanna Room at St. Andrew's Family Shelter.  Purchase the items and bring them to Hosanna by Wednesday June 6th- with receipt.

The shelter will be opening soon- July!  Hosanna's week of service will be July 29-August 4.  Informational Meeting Wednesday, June 6 at 10am and 7pm.

Might you be interested in coordinating this ministry beyond our doors?  Contact Pastor Linda!!

Peace,
 ~Pastor Linda

High School Graduation Recognition Sunday
Sunday, May 20, 2018
at the 10:30am Worship Service

Please fill out a Graduate Recognition form  here. Form needed by May 13th.

When our children were young we brought them to the font to begin a new adventure. Now as they are leaving on yet another journey, we bring them back to the font to be blessed and sent forth.

As we bless each graduate they will receive a special blanket created by our quilters, tied by peers in confirmation and faith formation to remind them that wherever they lay their head, God and the prayers of their home church go with them. Then all family and friends of graduates will be invited to lay hands upon these young adults. To conclude and commemorate this event a class picture will be taken after service.

Contact Pastor Jen with questions.
