Good luck to Aryan K. Aryan is a 7th grader in the Richfield Middle School. He will be competing this weekend in the State Spelling Bee. Aryan is our first student ever to make it to the State level. He has been working very hard so he can be a strong competitor. Aryan will compete on his birthday. What a great birthday gift that would be to win the State competition. We wish you all the luck.

Student pick up
and drop off
Please remember when dropping off and picking up students at both Plat and Richfield Schools, to obey all traffic signs. We have been seeing vehicles being parked on Plat Rd in the no parking zones. Also, when dropping off students, if your child is not ready to get out of the car, please park your car in a spot in order to be courteous of others who are dropping off their child. Please remember to pull completely forward past the front entrance at Richfield in order to keep the traffic flow on the roads clear. We appreciate your cooperation.
Summer School Registration is open!!!!
This year all Richfield Students as well as Friess Lake students are considered "Resident" students. You can register for classes now. Non-Resident enrollment begins on February 19th. We have a great line up of classes for this summer. We are bringing back some of the favorites and adding new choices. We have some particularly exciting classes for middle school students. Click on the link below to access the summer school booklet and Camp Invention Flyer.

This week's first class student is Calvin O. in Mrs.Siegman's Kindergarten class. He is hard working and loves to write stories. He is proud of his work and is full of ideas. Calvin is creative and is always listening during classroom discussions. He is kind to all his classmates and includes everyone when he is playing out at recess. When Calvin grows up he wants to be a paleontologist! (How cool is that?) Keep up the GREAT work Calvin!!
Humility VS Self-Confidence
Helping Our Children Understand the Difference

Humble: not proud or arrogant; modest
Confident: feeling or showing liking oneself; self-assured; assertive; self-reliant; poised

We attempt to raise our children to be kind, caring, responsible, helpful individuals. We want them to use their manners, to treat others and themselves with respect, but we also want them to believe in themselves, to stand strong and stay true to their morals and values. It surly is challenging to try to find a balance here; treat others the way you want to be treated but also believe in yourself and assertively stand by your beliefs. We do not want our children to brag or to think they are better than others but we do want them to know their strengths and to confidently communicate their needs and beliefs without being swayed by others or pressured into doing what their peers are doing or believing what their peers believe, How do we do this?

I wish I had all the answers, but I do not! One thing we can do is to talk with our children each day about what they feel they did really well that day.
Compliment them in specific ways so they know what they are doing well on and can continue to do well. Reward them with praise when they are kind to
others and themselves. Help them understand what they might not do so well and remind them that this is okay by talking about some of your own weaknesses. Model respect for them on a daily basis by treating others kindly when you are out and about; on the road, in the grocery store, at the restaurant, at the ball game, and at home. They watch us and they copy us. It is tiring and often exhausting, but work work to set a positive example of the balance between humility and confidence, and they will likely emanate the same!

Happy Parenting!

WE THINK THIS IS COOL!!!
To culminate our "Working Together" Social Studies unit, the students in 2nd grade thought of, and created a "Good" to sell! They had to produce at least 5 units of their product to sell, determine a cost for their product, create 3 reasons why people would want to buy it, and make an advertisement for their product. After being a producer and making their products, they then became consumers and could use their $5 budget to buy items they liked from their friends! They learned quickly about Supply and Demand all on their own. They also found out at the end, that they could use their Income to buy more Goods that they wanted, or they could save the Income that they earned.

WE THINK THIS IS COOL TOO!!!
Seventh graders are working hard on companion books in writer’s workshop. They had the opportunity to meet together and give each other some tips and feedback. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
