NEWS | SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER, 2020
Greetings!

Thank you for supporting the mission of Scripture Union Uganda. We are humbled by your commitment to the gospel through prayer, encouragement and sacrificial giving which has enabled and empowered us to continue to expand the kingdom in Uganda.

In September, we held our first virtual Annual General Meeting. We are grateful to all those who were part of the event. Here are three key statements from our time together at the virtual AGM. We hope they will encourage you to pray, give and support SU even more as we come to the close of 2020.

"I wish to remind you that Uganda has one of the fastest growing and young populations. This gives us a great opportunity for SU ministry especially in our ever increasing number of schools." Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, Chairperson, National Council

"Children and youth transformed by Christ are the hope of Uganda. We will not tire in doing what we do and working with others to achieve this." Dickens Zziwa S, National Director

"We continue to thank and appreciate all of you who have shared your resources with SU and have enabled its activities to continue running. May God abundantly reward your generosity." Brian Robert Jjemba, Hon. Treasurer

In this update we also share about the upcoming global week of prayer, training and relief for refugees, online ministry and providing relief for SU patrons.
GLOBAL WEEK OF PRAYER
Our limitless God!

The global SU family will come together for the Global Week of Prayer 2-6 November. We will be praying as individuals during our private prayer times, or as communities in SU offices and churches. One of the prayer points for Uganda is for a God led political season.

This year’s theme will focus on our limitless God and is based on Acts 17: 24-28. Our limitless God is beyond time and space, beyond boundaries and restrictions, and does not distance himself from us.

TRAINING & RELIEF FOR REFUGEES
"God is near the broken hearted and crushed in spirit" - Psalm 34:18!

The refugee community in northern Uganda has gone though a difficult season with major food ration cuts and pulling out of many aid agencies due to COVID 19. In September and October, Scripture Union leaders in the 5 refugee settlements of Rhino, Mvepi, Palorinya, BidiBidi and Omugo were supported by SU through 3 major programs. These include the distribution of bicycles to 3 leaders from each camp, Distribution of food packs to the most vulnerable and training in basic agriculture and distribution of audio bibles.

With the Bicycles, the leaders are able to easily coordinate monthly fellowships and ferry the sick to health centers. The food and agriculture initiatives have helped supplement the reduced food rations. The audio Bibles in local language are helping families engage with God's word.

One of the refugees who has been using an audio bible said, "this radio has helped us very much especially during this tragic moment, it was timely for my family, thanks to God for sending SU with this program, I and my family was so happy to listen to it (THE BIBLE) in our own language (Bari), I didn’t know how to read, but by it am able to hear. By this proclaimer am personally drawn closer to God."
ONLINE MINISTRY
Impacting families!
SU continues to extend ministry to children, youth and families through radio and online platforms. We have successfully run parenting workshops for parents and values classes for children and youth online for 5 months.

The online class has attracted about 450 children and youth. The most attended class in September and October was on the Value of Moral Purity. We have also had sessions with parents on communication with teens, and a monthly workshop for teenagers on digital safety.

A parent whose children attended the sessions in September and October said; "God bless Scripture Union, as adults, we are also quietly learning obedience and self control. Some of us fell into traps because of not being fully obedient to our parents."

RELIEF FOR S.U PATRONS
Help in time of need!
In September and October, we have been able to reach 40 patrons and their families in 7 regions through home visits. A patron is a Christian teacher in a primary or secondary school who volunteers to oversee the Scripture Union club. He / She serves as a mentor, discipler and Godly influence to the children and youth.

The visits were a response to appeals from some of the patrons who were out of work due to COVID 19 school closures. We encouraged and prayed and gave food items to each of patrons.

One of the patrons reached said, "Who am I to be thought of by SU in the whole region.

The LORD has done great things for us, And we are glad. Psalm 126:3
SU staff minister during a regular radio program in Mukono. This is one of the many radio stations that have given us weekly airtime for sessions to families.
A family with Bibles from SU. This is one of the families we have reached through our weekly online programs.
A group of teens watch and follow an online Values Class by SU.
