Living Arrangements of Fathers and Their Children

In the latest profile, we explored the characteristics of men who were living with minor children in 2016. Using the Current Population Survey (CPS), we found that 91% of men who were residing with minor children were solely living with their biological offspring. Nine percent of men who were living with minor children were living with at least one stepchild. A majority of fathers were married, but it was more common for fathers residing with only stepchildren to be living in cohabiting unions. Fathers with Resident Minor Children, 2016 (FP-18-06) helps contribute to our understanding of the characteristics of men who lived with minor children in 2016.
