To begin their application, students will need to go to iPortal and log in using their single sign-on credentials. The processing time for new I-20 or DS-2019 documents is 15 business days from the date of a complete submission. For any questions, students and staff may contact iNewStudent@ucsd.edu.

For additional information regarding Early Program Start Date Requests, Administrative Processing and Department Financial Support Documents, visit the “Campus Partners – Newly Admitted Students” section on the iStudents website.
Visa Delays due to Immigration Processing

Every international student who applies for an F-1 or J-1 visa at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy in their home country must present supporting documentation at the visa interview. These document requirements are outlined at the  Applying for U.S. Visa  webpage. Due to recent changes in the visa application process, some students seeking U.S. visas may encounter lengthy processing delays due to additional security and background clearances related to the U.S. Department of State’s Technology Alert List (TAL). When we become aware of students that are undergoing Administrative Processing, we will make sure departments are aware of the visa delay. Our office then works with the student and department in case a support letter is needed, or to help them navigate making inquiries to the U.S. Consulate. In some cases, a department or college advisor may be asked to provide letters explaining academic or research details and funding sources to respond to requests from the U.S. Department of State. If you have any questions regarding these inquiries, please contact ISPO.
Protect Your Students Against Scams!

This is a particularly active time for scammers to attempt to threaten or scare potential victims into providing them with personal or protected information. These may include tax, employment and immigration-related scams demanding banking information or threatening to contact police or immigration authorities.
