"The Father does indeed love us, but he does so in his Son; we glorify the Father by bearing fruit as branches of the vine which is his Son and becoming his disciples." ~St. Augustine
Dear Parishioners,
This past Monday our pastor, Fr. Peter Gori, entered the hospital where, at the time of this writing, he was scheduled to have surgery late in the week to correct a heart problem. I will do my best to keep our parish community informed of his progress. At this time we ask you to keep Fr. Peter in your prayers and, as he will need plenty of rest, we respectfully request that you do not call him nor visit him at the hospital. Cards for healing and well-wishing may be sent or brought directly to the parish office.
God bless you,
Fr. Art Johnson
This Sunday's gospel reading picks up where last week’s left off. Jesus tells us that in order to share in the completeness of his joy, so that the very joy that is His will belong to us as well, we must follow his great commandment to love one another as He loves us. He tells us that we are no longer slaves to Him but have been elevated to the unmerited and exalted position of being His friend! Jesus gives us a powerful witness to the deepest kind of friendship, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (Jn 15:13). To truly love others we have to be willing to invite them into a life with Christ, the only life that fulfills the deepest desires of our hearts. As you prepare for Mass this weekend, reflect on what it means to be a friend of Jesus.
