Lifelong Faith Formation Connections

From the heart of our Pastoral Associate...Dr. Kathie Amidei
Beginnings Endings
Some beginnings and some endings are predictable. We schedule them. Plan for them. And some come to us. Some appear. Some we are ready for and some hit us like a two by four.
Predicable ending: This was the last week of Family Program for this year. Every year this feels too early for me. I am so aware of what else we could/ should teach and share! I will miss seeing you more often, my FP friends!
Scheduled beginning: Next week is Holy Week. The three days of the Triduum are special to us as Catholics. My children were in grade school when I first took them to the Holy Thursday Mass. None of us knew what to expect but it became the religious tradition that most touched our souls. Good Friday we pray the Living Stations, a tradition in our parish. It is the best way to socialize children into the important but difficult last days of Jesus' life. If you haven't shared the Holy Saturday Vigil you are missing a most profound liturgical experience. It is simply amazing!
And some come to us: Our parish family has suffered a loss. Jane McL aughlin, our bookkeeper, one of the longest standing employees of our parish, died March 20 after a heroic battle with ovarian cancer. We are a staff with heavy hearts. I am reminded that losing a loved one is never easy. Jane was ready to go home. We who love her are trying to catch up with her, our new friend in heaven. We all miss you, Jane.
Some appear: Hopefully soon... waiting the birth of my granddaughter. Today she is an idea to me. When she appears, I know I will never be able to imagine life without her. That is what a child does to us!
At our mission, Jeanne Cotter reminded us, All is Holy... all the beginnings and all the endings. All belongs on the journey. I am just so grateful that I don't go it alone. Thank you, my traveling companions.

Middle School Family Program Class
Thank you to all the catechists who taught the 6, 7 and 8th graders this year! They did a great job of engaging the youth, sharing their own faith and modeling how to live the values we embrace as Catholics.
Our curriculum in the middle school Family Program classes focused on Morality and Catholic Social Teaching; topics which are incredibly important for middle school youth, and remain important no matter how old we are! In fact, my 90-year-old mother asked me to go with her to a Lenten Lunch and Discussion series on the topic again this year. That's where I picked up a small token of our thanks for the middle school catechists. The soap was perfect because it fit our curriculum this year. Check out the Gifts for the Journey website to see why.
The Lenten Lunch Series is titled "The Danger of Silence." What is the danger of silence? You can read what I shared with the youth from that series, and find ways to continue important discussions with your youth on our Middle School Blog.

High School Ministry

Junior Confirmation RetreatSt. Anthony was the place to be March 9-11, about 75 juniors and 35 team members were on our weekend Confirmation Retreat. Our theme was "Different" and our retreat song of the same name is by Micah Tyler. The team chose the theme "Different" because through the power of the Holy Spirit we are changed, we are different. We processed how difficult it can be to be different and not conform to the ways of the world because we all want to "fit in" and how we are called to live our Catholic faith in a world that desperately needs us.
We had powerful witness talks, skits, small group time, Adoration and other prayer experiences, live music and time to express our creativity with a craft, that gave everyone a beautiful memory of retreat. The Holy Spirit was truly present in this place.

Family Program

We finished the Family Program year with a family prayer recalling how Jesus reveals God for us.
As part of the prayer, families decorated a mat and candle which they took home to create a prayer space in which to keep their Bible.

Each person in the family was asked to share one way they grew in faith this year and one thing they learned, as they wrapped yarn and raffia around their candle to decorate it.
We hope you have set up  your prayer space at home and prayed the prayer on the back of your booklet together.

There are 7 famous I AM statements in the Gospel of John. Can you name them? See the Family Program Blog for the answers, and for all the resources, including the closing video from the last program. Share with us on the blog which of the statements you find most meaningful and why.

Have you signed up for FORMED?
The video we watched at Family Program was from the video series, Symbolon on FORMED.

Parents heard from Al McCauley on the Beattitudes.

This is week 11 of the Family Challenge. Read and reflect on John 4:5-42 and send your take away words via Remind! Family Challenge Booklet

We look forward to seeing you all at Mass and at parish and community events! Here is the link to the Family Program "Time Off" Calendar with some options for you!

Thank you all for a wonderful program year!
LaPetite Family Program
Families made "Resurrection Eggs" as they learned about Jesus' journey to the cross.

Certificates were given to the children who completed their homework for the year! Congratulations!
Family Inspiration:
Here's an at-home activity for your children: Match the take-away words from the past few weeks of the Family Challenge to the Scripture Citation for each week:

Take Away Words:
What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and sea obey?
Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.
Jesus went up on the mountain.
Hope.
If you truly believe in God and Jesus you can be healed.
Jesus will calm the storms of your life.
God heals.
We should be calm in times of danger.
Your faith has saved you.

Scripture Citations:
Week 7: Luke 7:36-50
Week 8: Matthew 8: 23-27
Week 9: Mark 5:21-43
Week 10: John 6:1-15

Family Easter Prayer:
Our time of Lent is coming to a close. We hope your family is able to enter into Holy Week with open hearts and rejoice together on Easter! Alleluia! This is the day the Lord has made!

We asked a friend if they had a prayer tradition for Easter and she shared that they sing this song:
