ESSA Update- The Board heard an update from OSPI staff on the status of the ESSA State Plan and an update on the latest meeting of the ESSA Accountability System Workgroup Technical Assistance Committee (ASW TAC).
10th Grade Score-Setting - The Board heard an update from OSPI staff regarding a recommendation on threshold scores, including the score (for both ELA and math) on the tenth grade assessment that indicates a student is on-track for career and college readiness.
Science Score-Setting - The Board heard from OSPI staff about a process for setting scores on the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science.
NGSS Communication Plan - The Board heard from staff, OSPI staff, and a UW science education specialist regarding a communication effort on behalf of NGSS, to support standards implementation and to complement and reinforce the Board's interest in advocacy for equity in education.
Student Voice Panel - The Board heard from student leaders from organizations that promote student voice, who shared their "asks" of the education system
Update on Required Action Districts (RAD) - The Board heard an update from OSPI staff on developing new exit criteria for districts in required action that align to the new ESSA accountability system.
OPMA & PRA - The Board received a training from its Assistant Attorney General on the Open Public Meeting Act and the Public Records Act.
Non-profit Legislative Panel - The Board heard from invited representatives from key nonprofit K-12 advocacy partners, who shared their organization's 2018 legislative advocacy agendas.
