PTSO Newsletter - October 4, 2020
Welcome to our first newsletter of the 2020-21 school year! These weekly newsletters will be delivered to your inbox every Sunday to provide you with the information you need to support your students throughout the year.

We hope that your students enjoyed their first days of in-person learning last week. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the entire WHS faculty and staff for all of their work preparing for this unique school year.

For your planning purposes as we continue in the hybrid model, we encourage you to review the

School Council Representatives Needed
Each fall, WHS parents elect two representatives to the WHS School Council to serve a two-year term. School Council is comprised of students, teachers, parents and community members who work together with Dr. Chisum to examine and make recommendations on school policies, as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. School Council meetings are held monthly, generally on the first Wednesday of the month from 9-10:30am or 7-8:30pm. All meetings this year will be held via Zoom.

Ildi Nielsen, PTSO VP, is organizing the election this year. All interested candidates should send an email to whsptsovps@gmail.com with a brief paragraph about you and why you would like to serve on School Council (approx. 250 words or less).

Deadline to submit candidate statements is Friday, October 16th.

COVID-19 Resources
Daily Health Assessment
The WPS Nursing Department has prepared a Daily Health Assessment which they ask all parents and guardians to review every morning their students will be coming to WHS for in-person learning. Commitment by all to this Daily Health Assessment will help to keep our classrooms as healthy as possible this year, and our school doors open.
Meet Our WHS Nurses
Meet our school nurses -- Shari Johnson, Krisann Miller and Pam Sheridan. This team will be a critical resource for WHS students and families this year, as they are each and every year.
Influenza Vaccine Documentation
As mandated by the State, influenza immunization will be required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities by December 31, 2020. The new vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once your student has received their flu shot, please email documentation to the WHS School Nurses.

COVID-19 Situation Chart
Wellesley Public Schools has prepared a COVID-19 Situation Chart to provide an overview of the steps and timeline that will be followed in response to symptomatic individuals or those in close contact with someone who is symptomatic.
