Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ,

My niece, Amy, has the privilege of studying under Dr. Alice Mills at the University of Alaska. Dr. Mills is a thoughtful Christian who is the creator of the website https://poemachronicles.com/ in which she blogs about her journey through an abusive marriage. Two of her posts entitled "Despair: The Aim of the Abuser" and "How to Get the Most out of Your Suffering" contain helpful insights for those in an abusive relationship.

Tragically, South Carolina ranks near the top when it comes to domestic abuse and violence. South Carolina's Domestic Violence Advisory Committee reported that we rank "as the nation's sixth-worst state" for the rate of women murdered by men. Our state's domestic violence homicide rate is more than 1.5 times the national average.

Domestic violence has been defined as "the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another." Domestic abuse can be sexual, physical, psychological and emotional. Given that domestic abuse has reached epidemic proportions, especially in our state, there is a good chance that you know someone who is a victim.

Many instances of domestic abuse and violence go unaddressed until the situation escalates to the point where local law enforcement is called. Thankfully, there are resources for those struggling. These include:
Let's reach out to those who are victims of domestic violence and abuse and encourage them to get the help they need.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

Current Sermon Series - Blessed Evangelism:
BLESS is a new approach to prayer and evangelism. It's less about downloading information or memorizing scripts, and more about loving our neighbors well. It helps us get "unstuck" and practice evangelism more effortlessly. BLESS is an intentional pathway for persons of all ages who follow Jesus to become like Jesus and join the mission of Jesus. BLESS is an initiative to  Make and Deepen Disciples.

BLESS Small Groups:
BLESS is a new way of thinking about loving our unchurched neighbors and friends and living our faith effectively among them. BLESS consists of five missional practices that help us introduce people to Jesus. We have some groups that are doing the BLESS curriculum that goes along with the sermon series.  These groups are open to any adult of any age, marital status, etc. Please join them to dig deeper into the new year's sermon series and learn how to BLESS people.
