Summer Time Fun at Saint John's!

Thank you to the YMCA of Sacramento for providing our kids with fun-filled summer adventures! From a tour of the State Capitol building, to swimming lessons, classes on growing a garden and participating in a nutrition and fitness program, the kids are loving this program - thank you,  Sacramento YMCA !

Who doesn't love building with Lego?!  The Student led team from SES Robotics, whose mission is to engage youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEM) and to educate and trigger a spark in all youth about STEM related careers, treated our kiddos to a mini robotics workshop on June 29th.

We are so grateful to our amazing community partners for providing summer time enrichment for the kiddos at Saint John's. Teamwork makes the dream work and we are so thankful for our team!
CALPIA Construction Program

Congratulations to 12 of the amazing women here at Saint John's who, on July 6th, completed a four week Pre-Apprenticeship Program through CalPIA and received their MC3 "Multi-Craft Core Curriculum" Certification. The curriculum included training on Construction Industry Orientation, Tools and Materials, Construction Health and Safety, Blueprint Reading, Basic Math for Construction, Heritage of the American Worker, Diversity in the Construction Industry, Green Construction, and Financial Responsibility.

These women clearly exemplify our Core Value of Effort, as they are taking action and working hard to improve their lives and the lives of their children. Congratulations, ladies! Many thanks to CALPIA for opening another door for the women at Saint John's!

Mandy's Story

Curled up in the corner of a trap house wanting her life to end, this remarkable mother of six children said a prayer. That prayer was answered when Saint John's called her to say that she was welcome to walk through the red doors.

"I say I've been here my whole life because my life began when I got to Saint John's."

Visit our blog to learn more about Mandy's journey towards breaking her own cycle of poverty and dependence.

Bridge the Gap Campaign

Since launching our Bridge the Gap Campaign in March, the outpouring of community enthusiasm and support has been truly moving. Thank you! From amazing individuals, families and anonymous donors, to inspired Boy Scout troops, local agencies, businesses and churches, and some incredible Saint John's Board Members, the gap is closing and we can't thank you enough!

While we've made a significant amount of progress, we still need your support! A gift of $130 provides a family full support for 24 hours including housing, drug and alcohol counseling, parenting education, healthy relationship training and childcare.  To find out more about our Bridge the Gap campaign and different ways to get involved, please visit:

DONATE MONEY OR GOODS
Saint John's relies heavily on donations from our community. Your financial support of Saint John's crucial. We also need your support in providing clothing for school and/or for job interviews, diapers or feminine hygiene products, and/or an unused vehicle. These are all donations that will make an enormous impact on a woman or child's life.

By dining at Plates Midtown or Plates Cafe, or by choosing Plates to cater your next event, you are not only eating fresh and locally sourced food, you are also supporting the employment training of Saint John's women, contributing to the success of the program as a whole. 100% of proceeds directly support women working to recuperate and reengineer their lives.

When you donate money, goods, and/or time, you are opening the doors to nearly 1,000 women and children annually so that they can live in a safe, structured environment while they develop the tools to make lasting change in their lives. Every cent and every second you give supports them in this effort. You can rest assured that your contributions will be put to uncommonly good use.
