A Message from the Principal

|
Dear Sheridan Families,
Good afternoon! What a week! It began with a smashing success for our BTS Drop-off Parade with a bike brigade and LOTS of Shark balloons and decorations! Library books began to be delivered to classrooms like little gifts in the mornings, and AVA students had their first library pick up of the year. It has been so wonderful to have all the students EVERY day! They seem thrilled to be here and I know the staff couldn’t be happier to have the desks filled day in and day out with students. We want to say a huge THANK YOU for all your help and support. Please see important information below.
Arrival Reminders:
- Car line drop-off is still in the front of the building -- even if your child goes around to the 2nd/3rd door. This ensures safety and traffic flow. Thank you.
- THANK YOU for being on the Self-Certification! A few reminders:
- Please make sure it is completed BY 7am and 11am
- Please double and triple check your child’s student ID #. If the wrong number is entered, it does NOT come through to our cleared list.
- Please do not leave your children unattended prior to 7:35am or 11:50am as we do not have supervision outside.
Bus Rider Certification Protocols:
General Reminders:
We have a few extra challenges this year! Hence, we are asking for some additional assistance from you.
- Please communicate absences with both the teachers AND office staff as soon as you are aware - especially if it is known in advance.
- Please fill out the self-certification even if your child is going to be absent. This helps us tremendously and prevents additional cross-checking, as well as lets us know they are not screening OUT, but simply absent for another reason.
- Please be on time! Our time is very limited with the students so the teachers are trying to maximize every moment. It is difficult for both your child to enter late as well as disruptive to the rest of the class.
- We are also asking that you limit any item drop-offs (water bottles, snacks, etc.). We are trying to limit movement in the building, ensure continuity of instruction and help the students develop responsibility and independence.
- Please make sure that Green Notes are sent WITH your child. We can only accommodate emergencies via phone calls this year due to the tight schedule.
- The temperatures are expected to be cooler next week. Please make sure your child comes dressed appropriately as we will be outside for snacks and breaks! Also, please make sure your child’s name is in/on any clothing so that we can reduce the Lost and Found we typically accumulate. Thank you!
Parent Information Night:
Our Parent Information Night will be held virtually on Thursday, October 1st. The schedule is listed below. Links will be provided in a separate email on Tuesday.
- 5:00-5:15 ~ Principal Message/APT/Spirit
- 5:20-5:40 ~ Kindergarten
- 5:40-6:00 ~ Grade 1
- 6:00-6:20 ~ Grade 2
- 6:20-6:40 ~ Grade 3
- 6:40-7:00 ~ Grade 4
Math 3/4:
In the past, we have placed 3rd graders into Math 3/4 before the school year began. Due to the switch to remote learning in the spring, instruction and assessments were both impacted. For this reason, we are waiting to place students into Math 3/4 until after winter break, when we will have more data and a better understanding of students’ skills. In the meantime, the Advanced Learning Specialist who teaches Math 3/4 will flex students on a unit-by-unit basis to provide enrichment.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan
