cantorCantorial Transition 2020: Listening Campaign
Preparation for the Cantorial Search
This Friday, February 1 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
As we prepare to search and interview candidates this coming summer and fall, we want to make sure that our Temple Israel members' thoughts and voices are integral to the process.
There will be a number of opportunities to reflect and to speak together as a community and sip a glass of wine or juice.

We also have a number of  in-home salons   in February and March.  You can also email us at  [email protected] .
We Want Your Opinion!
This week, the URJ is launching the nation-wide survey and benchmarking project. This is a chance to make your voice heard on many areas of community life at Temple Israel and the congregation's future.  You will receive an email with a link to the survey within the week. We will also have hard-copy surveys and designated computers and iPads onsite to access the online survey. If you have questions, you may contact Dekel Luban .

From Buffalo to Jerusalem: A History of American Zionism and Our Complex Love Affair with the Jewish Homeland
With Rabbi Dan Judson, Dean of the Hebrew College Rabbinical School
Wednesdays, January 30, February 6, and February 13, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Cost: $75 for members, $105 for non-members
As the American Jewish/Israeli relationship becomes increasingly complex, it's crucial we step back and examine our history. Join us to explore the events and personalities which shaped American Judaism's attitudes towards Israel. We will start by examining attempts to create a kibbutz in Buffalo, New York back in 1825 and move through Louis Brandeis' transformation of American Zionism and onward until we arrive at the most recent debates of divestment. Together we will debate what it has meant-and still means-to be an American Zionist. For more information, contact Mike Fishbein. Registration for TI members is available here. Registration for non-members is available here

The Scientific Revolution brought us changes in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry--it also hinted at the beginning of a decline in religious belief. In this class, we'll navigate shifts in science, religion, and the ways a critical-thinking approach to life can be in sync with core ideas in Judaism. Together we'll explore the "three m's" of Judaism: minyan (community); mikdash (the holy); and mitzvah (commandments). Prior study is not required to join the conversation. Register.
