Business and Government Leaders Launch Chicago Regional Growth Corporation

Distinguished business and government leaders launched the Chicago Regional Growth Corporation (CRGC) in January. It is a regional economic development organization that drives collaboration among public and private partners in order to generate inclusive growth and prosperity across northeastern Illinois.

CRGC will provide a platform for collaboration and prioritize, align and manage the region's economic development initiatives, unifying programming and the region's identity. CRGC includes leadership from Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties and the City of Chicago, as well as industry leaders from manufacturing, food processing, finance and higher education. The new organization will strengthen the regional economy and better connect resources to generate economic opportunity and prosperity.

"In 2013, I brought our neighboring county leaders together to explore how we could better combine resources and collaborate to advance the Chicago region," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. "This regional working group has helped develop programs and initiatives that have already benefitted residents throughout the region. By formally creating CRGC, we are providing a single voice for the region that will benefit businesses and residents throughout northeastern Illinois."

Continuing our Work in Communities

Freedom's Path Affordable Housing for Veterans in Hines,IL
As 2018 begins, we are pleased to report on investments we will be placing in Cook County communities from our Affordable Housing (HOME), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Disaster Recovery and Resilience (CDBG-DR) and

Our Affordable Housing Program is designed for seniors, veterans and those with disabilities. This year, Cook County will work with the Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) to support many of their critical assets, particularly those in the south suburbs.

We are investing $9.8 million of CDBG funding county-wide in infrastructure and facility improvements, social services, and other key initiatives. These activities are primarily for the benefit of low and moderate income neighborhoods.

The 2018 investment through the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program is over $1 million, which includes a special one-time supplemental allocation of $502,889. Sixteen agencies were awarded funding. ESG funding supports a variety of shelter and service activities to aid homeless persons and prevent homelessness.

Technology Enhances our Work

In order to enhance safety and efficiency within the incorporated parts of Cook County, our Department of Building and Zoning has been charting their progress with the on-line permitting system.

In December of 2016, 21% of total permits were paid online.  As of December, 2017, 55% of total permits were paid online. As we move forward in 2018, we will continue to grow our success using technology to enhance our work for residents and businesses.
