City of South Padre Island

The City of South Padre Island is accepting applications from volunteers willing to serve on one of the City’s boards and committees. Residents can volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of the community by setting policy, aiding fellow citizens and planning for the Island’s future. 

“Serving on a committee or a board is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the community,” stated Randy Smith, City manager. “Community service is an investment to our community and the residents who live on the Island.” 

Currently, the City is looking for qualified volunteers to fill terms on the following committees:

·        Board of Adjustments & Appeals
·        Board of Ethics (cannot serve on any other board or committee)
·        Convention & Visitors Advisory Board
·        Development Standards Review Task Force 
·        Economic Development Corporation 
·        Parks & Keeps SPI Beautiful Committee
·        Planning & Zoning Committee
·        Shoreline Task Force
·        Special Events Committee (Must be in the tourism, hospitality, and events industry)

If you are interested in serving on any of these committees, please complete an application and submit the application to Niki Soto, city secretary at 4601 Padre Blvd., email Nsoto@myspi.org or fax to (956) 761-3888 by Monday, Nov. 23.

The 27th Annual Shrimp Cook-Off & Seafood Festival announces an exciting new format! It is a 5 DAY curbside, food tour and culinary crawl. EAT & VOTE: November 3 – 7, 2020. WATCH People’s Choice & The Agency: November 8. The Shrimp Cook-Off will feature shrimp and seafood fares of participating restaurants. A discussion of the schedule and the activities and how COVID-19 has changed this event.
