Stay-At-Work Program

The Life Safety Alliance (LSA) Loss Control Sub-Committee meets periodically throughout the year.  Recently, the topic of returning employees to duty after an injury was identified they requested help on.

Charter Partners worked in conjunction with PMA Management Corp. experts Jim Rhoads and Susan Stevens to bring a one-hour education session delivered via the web on February 22nd.

The program reviewed the following:
  • Review the importance of management's involvement in the Stay-at-Work Program (SAW)
  • The establishment of a Stay-at-Work program is the next phase in successfully managing your workers' compensation costs
  • Discuss the steps in developing and implementing a Stay-at-Work program and selecting a Stay-at-Work Coordinator
  • Participants' roles and responsibilities and how to effectively communicate the program to your staff
The participants received great information to take back to their organizations, including a Stay-At-Work planning guide.

Thank you to Jim & Susan for helping our members with this important topic!

Of special note, we are holding another session of this webinar on May 22nd at 10AM (EST).

ALCOA: Leadership and Its Relationship to Safety

As many of you know, we have had a number of opportunities to meet and visit with Paul O'Neill, the former US Treasury Secretary and former CEO of ALCOA.

He has visited with us here at the Farm and shared his insights on the importance of leadership and its relationship to safety.  We thought you would benefit by reading insights from a friend of Charter Partners, SandRun Risk.   Click here

Vermont's Captive Legislation Amended

For the first time in recent memory, a bill containing amendments to Vermont's captive laws passed both chambers and reached the Governor prior to the crossover deadline for policy committees to move their priority bills to the calendars. This should help to further define which bills have a chance of passing prior to adjournment.

While the Legislature is always responsive to captive insurance bills, the speed in which this one was addressed is noteworthy, and in part a reflection of the technical nature of this year's package. H.694 is the consensus product of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation ("DFR") and the captive industry, and represents the latest example of continuous tweaking to make sure Vermont's law remains fresh and responsive.  Read more about the new legislation here.
