Dear Parents / Guardians, Students, Staff, and Friends of the Sanborn Regional High School Community. Here are your latest important announcements from Sanborn Regional High School:

SRHS Recognized With Top NH High School Award
A Message From Principal Brian M. Stack

The New Hampshire Excellence in Education organization has recently recognized Sanborn Regional High School with the High School of Excellence Award. The Excellence in Education Initiative recognizes New Hampshire public schools that meet high standards of excellence and can serve as representatives of the many excellent schools throughout the state. During a pep rally on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, students, faculty, and local education officials were surprised by the announcement by Principal Brian M. Stack and representatives from the selection team.

The award is sponsored by McDonald's Restaurants of New Hampshire. "McDonald's restaurants of New Hampshire are proud to have participated in the EDies Awards program for the last two decades," said New Hampshire McDonald's owner/operator Peter Napoli. "Each year, it's a true pleasure to recognize educators and schools that go above and beyond to help our students learn and grow in exciting ways. McDonald's thanks all of our New Hampshire educators for their endless dedication, hard work and enthusiasm!"

After the pep rally, Sanborn Principal Brian M. Stack offered these statements on the award: "This award represents the many examples of excellence that can be found in our school community each and every day. Each of our staff members, students, and parents have contributed in some small way to our success. We are honored to be considered a role model for other New Hampshire high schools and we will continue to make learning for all our highest priority. That is what Sanborn P.R.I.D.E. is all about. Today is a great day to celebrate for the children of Fremont, Kingston, and Newton!"

The Excellence Award is given annually to one New Hampshire elementary, middle, and high school that exemplify the five School Excellence Competencies which are spelled out in greater detail on this rubric and listed below:

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION: The curriculum and instructional practices are presented in a rigorous, relevant and engaging learning environment.

COMMUNITY AND CULTURE: The school organizes community members, ensuring they all have a role in building the school's climate and culture.

VISION: The school's vision, mission and goals are clearly articulated, well communicated and guide practice.

INFORMED: The school has an effective system for utilizing data and information that supports personalization.

EMPOWERED: There is a culture of empowerment among students, staff, teachers, administration, and community members.

Earlier this year, the staff at Sanborn submitted an extensive application which described how each of these competencies were met and/or exceeded at Sanborn. The school was then asked to give a 45 minute presentation to the selection committee. The highlight of the presentation was this three minute video , written and produced by Sanborn students to describe what Sanborn means to them. The video will be used in the future as part of an informational packet to new students as well as in-coming ninth grade students to help them learn, from students, what Sanborn is all about.

The selection committee named the school a semi-finalist for the award in February. In March, the school was asked to host the award selection committee for a four-hour visit during the school day. During this time, the committee observed classrooms and met with a variety of school community stakeholders regarding Sanborn's application. The committee's observations from that day were taken into consideration in its ultimate decision to name Sanborn as the award winner.

Sanborn Regional High School will receive state-wide recognition as the EDies High School of Excellence at the June 9 EDies Award dinner in Manchester. The school will also receive $2,000, a school banner, and a beautifully engraved school bell signifying excellence in education.

Previous winners for this award were Winnacunnet High School (2017), White Mountains Regional High School (2016), and Bow High School (2015). Sanborn Regional High School last won this award in 1998 and is one of the only New Hampshire schools to be able to say that it has won the award twice.

Senior Spotlight : Abbie Parrot
An Article by Teacher Ashley Harbel

If anyone is going to change the world, it is going to be Abigail Parrot. She is the type of person who sets her mind to something and then achieves it, no matter the obstacles in her way.

I have had the pleasure of working with Abbie as one of the advisors for the Class of 2018. In my 3 years with them, Abbie has served as both secretary and president. Beyond Student Council, Abbie has integrated herself into the fabric of Sanborn. She is a student who cares. She cares about her academics, she cares about her fellow students and the staff at Sanborn, she cares about her adorable pup Jasmine, but most importantly, she is determined to leave Sanborn a better place than when she began.

Abbie has been very involved in the political side of education during her time here, which bodes well for her dreams of majoring in Political Science. She is one of the founders of the student group Students With a Voice, attends Board of Ed meetings, and is not afraid to have her voice heard when she believes something is right. She is also a member of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council for NH and has recently been given the opportunity to be an intern with Carol Shea Porter.

In addition to everything Abbie has given Sanborn politically, she is also just an awesome human being. If you are down, you need a helping hand, or just someone to laugh with, Abbie is your person. She genuinely cares about the people she lets into her life and will do whatever she can to make their life better.

Abbie is going to make a difference in this world and I cannot wait to see where her journey takes her (I am still hoping it takes her to the White House - remember to save a room for us to visit!)

Senior Spotlight : Brandon Hull
An Article by Kecha Mahoney
I have had the distinct privilege of knowing Brandon Hull since he was in the sixth grade. Not many educators have the opportunity to follow a student from middle school through high school. In that time I have seen Brandon grow from a boy to a young man. When asked what his most notable traits are Brandon wants to be known as someone that is kind, generous and friendly. To know Brandon is to recognize that he is a young many that wears his heart on his sleeve and that his kind, generous and friendly nature shines through.
Brandon's hopes and plans for the future include and education and career in welding. Brandon hopes to participate in the Job Corp program where he can get the welding training he needs to become a successful welder in the future. Looking ahead, Brandon hopes to further advance his welding career by learning to scuba dive and become a marine welder. This is a perfect merge of Brandon's love of marine science and welding. Brandon's life goals are to work hard and become a successful welder so that he can help support his parents. His desire to help his family is an admirable one and exemplifies his kind and generous nature. With solid plans for the future, and the support of his family, Brandon will make his goals come true.
Senior Spotlight : Jesse Auger
An Article by Teacher Katie Graham

There are probably several teachers at Sanborn that could successfully write a Senior Spotlight for Jesse Auger. I know I am not the only one who appreciates his personality, character, and work ethic. Jesse is a phenomenal human being that I have had the pleasure to have in English class for two years. In that time he has shown how much he values the opinions of others, how much he values growth, and how appreciative he is of the opportunities he has found here at Sanborn.
Jesse attends the Seacoast School of Technology for Welding and, after serving his country, wants to make welding his full-time career. I hope someone from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is reading this so that they know to expect Jesse to come knocking at their door in a few years.
One of the most impressive things I've seen Jesse accomplish was this year's Name that Tune during Winter Carnival. His knowledge of music gives me hope for the future, much like many of Jesse's attributes give me great hope for the future. Jesse is kind, thoughtful, funny, and a great person to have a meaningful conversation with.
Congratulations Jesse on all you have accomplished here at Sanborn. I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors and I hope we hear of all of the amazing things you'll accomplish.
Senior Spotlight : Kiley Morrill
An Article by Teacher Donna Moseley

Kiley is senior at Sanborn and in her second year at the Seacoast School of Technology (SST) in the Biotechnology program. I had the privilege of having Kiley in Psychology class as a Junior and was very impressed by her as a student and a person. She is thoughtful, personable and inclusive in her attitude and behavior in the classroom and among her peers. In addition to be a diligent student, she is open to working with others and always strives to do well.
Sophomore Biology was a turning point for Kiley that has shaped the choices she has made about her time here at Sanborn and her future after graduation. She credits this class with sparking an interest in the sciences and biology in particular which led her to enroll in the Biotechnology program at SST.
Liz Richardson, Kiley's biology teacher, describes Kiley as " quiet and purposeful in her actions. She does not want to stand out from the crowd because she wants to be able to observe its intricacies without causing waves." I have no doubt these observation skills will serve her well as she leaves Sanborn and heads to Plymouth State.
Kiley is excited to attend Plymouth State in the fall to further explore her love for science and the outdoors as she studies environmental biology and works to address the many environmental challenges we face. I imagine that if you can't find Kiley studying and doing school work, you will find her hiking and enjoying time outdoors. Her passion for learning and the environment will definitely take her far and will likely be a benefit to all of us.
Lauren Petraitis, an English teacher describes Kiley as someone who " holds wisdom well beyond her peers. I have seen this same presence from her since sophomore year, but she has grown so much since then. Her intensity, work ethic, and confidence are what drive her to be successful in and out of the classroom. Kiley truly wants the world to be a better place, and has started making it so, with her fierce empathy and seeking to question the status quo. I am so proud of her and hope that she continues pushing herself to discover all that she is capable of!"
Senior Spotlight : Renee Ste. Marie
An Article by Teacher Holly Price

It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know Renee Ste. Marie this past year. She has been a very talented student in my quilting class. She enjoys classes in the in the science and math areas and plans to study Biotechnology next year at college. She enjoys hands on learning and has found quilting to be one of her favorite electives.
Renee was recently inducted to the National technical Honor Society at SST. She has been studying Biotechnology there for the past 2 years. On her own time she also has taken Sociology through VLAX.
Science teacher Heather Wheeler describes Renee as bright, hardworking, dedicated and a quite leader in the classroom. All attributes I agree with as well! We both have enjoyed her sense of humor too.
Thanks Renee for being a great student! Best luck with all your future endeavors , we will miss you next year.
SRHS Recognizes May Staff Members of the Month
Congratulations to Gina Drake and Steve Krzyzanowski!
Each month, Sanborn Regional High School recognizes two staff members for going above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of our students. We are proud to recognize the following individuals as our May 2018 Staff Members of the Month:
Gina Drake
Mrs. Drake is a paraprofessional on the special education team. She works one on one and in small groups with several of our students. Students says she is a huge advocate for them in the classroom. She is always willing to go out of her way to make sure their needs are met, and she has a great personality. Staff colleagues say she is a great team player who is always looking to lend a hand and is committed to helping the team with anything. She goes above and beyond on a regular basis!

Steve Krzyzanowski
Mr. Krzyzanowski, better known as "Mr. K," is new to Sanborn this year as an assistant principal. He oversees the Freshman Learning Community, among many other tasks. Students find him to be a very approachable person who is always willing to listen and who genuinely cares about each of the students he works with. End of Year Plans - Last Days of School For Grades 9-11
June 18-19 Will Be For Competency Recovery

Dear Parents/Guardians of Sanborn Regional High School Grade 9-11 Students,
In order to provide students with every possible opportunity to obtain full credit for all classes, we are offering a modified class schedule on the last two days of school, June 18 and 19. On these days, we will run 90 minute extended Focused Learning Time (FLT) periods.
FLT is typically offered as part of our regular schedule each day for 40 minutes and provides an opportunity for students to engage in personalized intervention, extension, and enrichment. During these end-of-year extended FLT periods, teachers will be available to work with students on projects for competency recovery.  Students who will not pass a course will have the opportunity to meet with their guidance counselor to complete a credit check, re-evaluate their course selections for the 2018-19 school year and to initiate the process for credit recovery.
Please understand that attendance at these extended FLT sessions is mandatory for all students not passing a competency or who have not finished any required work in one or more of their courses. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity for teacher supported competency recovery that will not be available over the summer.  If students are not able to make up the competency/credit at the end of the year, they will likely have to repeat the class next school year.
Students who are passing all of their competencies and who have completed all required work for their classes   will not be required to attend these extended focused learning opportunities. Please be aware, however, that bus transportation will only be available at the end of the regular school day at 2:10 PM. Please also note that the last regular day of school for grades 9-11 will be Friday June 15, with dismissal at 12:00PM.
Your child will be notified by their teacher(s) by Friday, June 15 at the latest if they will be required to stay for any and all of the extended FLT sessions. For questions about your child's grades, please contact your child's teacher(s) at (603) 642-3341.
The schedule for the days at the end of the year will be as follows:

Technology Device Collection
All students will be permitted to take their school-issued technology devices (chromebooks/laptops) home for the summer. These devices have been checked out by students through our school library system. Before the end of the year, all students will need to renew the check-out of their device with the school library. If students do not complete this task before the last day of school then the school will assume that the device has been lost or damaged and will pursue payment of the replacement cost for the device.
Please contact the office at (603) 642-3341 if you have any questions about this plan.
Dress For Success
A Message From Principal Brian M. Stack

Students at Sanborn Regional High School are expected to dress in an appropriate manner during the school day. We use the expression, "Dress for Success!"

Here are some things that students should keep in mind when selecting clothing for school:
  • DRESS FOR SAFETY: Students are expected to follow all school rules governing safety in specialized programs that may require the wearing of protective clothing, safety glasses, proper foot protection, or other similar requirements. This includes areas such as the shop, the gym, and other specialized programs.
  • DRESS WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY: Through their choice of dress, students must display respect for themselves, their school, and their community. The wearing of clothing which is unduly revealing or attire which detracts in any way from the educational mission of the school is unacceptable.
  • AVOID THIS KIND OF DRESS: Clothing that promotes drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or violence is unacceptable. Clothing should not be offensive, nor should it include vulgar pictures or words.
  • HATS ARE OK: The wearing of hats is permitted only in the hallways, cafeteria, and other non-instructional spaces in the school. They are not permitted in classrooms.
Our staff reserves the right to ask students to change any attire that does not meet our "Dress for Success" requirements. We also reserve the right to send home any student who is dressed in an unduly offensive or inappropriate manner which disrupts the educational process.

Thank you for taking these points into consideration.
