H-tags Are Available

The Department of For-Hire Vehicles is making available an additional pathway to receive an  H-tag. Drivers and companies can obtain H-tags by agreeing to participate in pilot programs, such as Microtransit, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, Veterans Transportation, Vehicle-On-Demand, and others. The objective is to improve transportation equity for DC residents.  To learn more about this unique opportunity click  AI-2018-02 to review the Administrative Issuance (AI).

For-hire industry stakeholders should monitor the DFHV website regularly; not only to review the latest AI, but also to stay informed about relevant activities, agency services, and rulemakings  that impact your business.
Dome Light Compliance

DFHV reminds taxicab drivers to switch off the "For-Hire" light when passengers are in the vehicle. See your DTS Provider for help with using a manual switch or Bluetooth connection. DTS Providers are required to ensure proper installation of and connection with the dome or cruising light; and are subject to a $100 fine for non-compliance. Drivers face a $50 fine for the improper use of the cruising/dome light when the "For-Hire" display is not switched off while transporting passengers.

March for Our Lives

Be advised that many streets in Downtown DC will be closed on Saturday, March 24 because of the March For Our Lives Rally. Traffic delays should be expected. The 600-1000 blocks of D Street, SW, and the 1300-1400 blocks of New York Avenue, NW, are the designated areas to allow for-hire vehicles to drop off passengers. The District has created marchforourlives.dc.gov which has information regarding street closures, public transportation, hotels, reunification services, and bus permitting. Additionally, you can sign up for free text alerts from the District on safety, weather, traffic and transit information by texting "MARCH24" to 888-777.
