News for alumni & friends
September 2020
Greetings from Ann Arbor -

When bright people get together and all work on a problem, they can find answers. It has been inspiring to see the Tauber Institute family of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and sponsors make this summer's team projects possible.

Tauber students exemplify continuous improvement

Congratulations to Katie Cameron (MBA) and Michelle Pawlow (EGL BSE-EnvE/MSE-IOE), winners of the 2020 Tauber Alumni Scholarships. When presenting this year's awards at the SPOTLIGHT! 2020 closing ceremony, Alumni Board President Andrew Burgess (MBA '11) remarked, "Really what we're looking for are students who most exemplify the ideal of continuous improvement within the institute. Who comes to Tauber and leaves it better than they found it? That's the goal. Every organization can continuously improve, and Tauber is no exception."

Tauber team projects reduce our carbon footprint - and more

When asked about increasing team project focus on helping industry partners to meet - and exceed - their sustainability goals, Engineering Co-director Larry Seiford said, “In the early days, many projects were manufacturing focused and addressed problems found within the four walls of the plant. Today’s focus on global operations opens up possibilities for the entire supply chain. This coupled with an increased awareness of environmental impact has not only refocused their emphasis but increased the impact manyfold.”

According to initial sponsoring company calculations, the 2020 Tauber team projects resulted in an average of $31 million per project savings over three years. Total projected savings is over $433 million.
