In Cameroon, the Xaverian Missionaries have inherited and cared for areas unaffected by the Gospel. They have placed particular emphasis on the training of catechists and leaders of basic Christian communities. In the work of evangelization they adopted a method characteristic of Africa that of the "oral tradition."
While in the West and South, impetus was given to the ecclesial communities of villages, in the large urban centers of Douala and Yaoundé the pastoral work was typical of that of the peripheries of the great metropolises. In the 1980's the Xaverians opened a scholasticate of theology in Yaounde for young Xaverians from around the world.
