Creating Dynamic Spaces
Our feature on alumni who have shared their time and talents on the Be The Light Campus Master Plan continues in today's Alumni DeTales. The design eye of both of these alumni, Luciano Carfagna and Matt Schlater, helped create dynamic spaces for our students to work in and enjoy throughout the school building.
Luciano Carfagna
Class of 2004

Luciano, a Sales Executive at Continental Office, and his team designed an engaging and beautiful DIRTT media wall for the guidance family room in the new Student Service Center. Luciano has been an influencer in many of the design considerations for updates at St. Francis DeSales High School. We appreciate every opportunity to welcome him back and all the great things he continues to do for our school.
Matt Schlater
Class of 1999

Matt, a principal with Jones-Schlater Flooring LLC worked with architect Dan Mayer and construction partner Corna Kokosing to supply and install flooring and wall tile in our new Student Service Center. Much of the material for both this project and the 2019 classroom updates were donated (check out photos from the classroom updates featured in a Weekly DeTales last fall). The new flooring will provide a beautiful and functional surface for years to come.

Alumni Board and Council Kickoff a New School Year

St. Francis DeSales High School hosted the quarterly Alumni Board and Council meeting last evening in the renovated courtyard of the new Student Service Center, formerly the convent.

Board members were also able to tour the new space that will support students, faculty, guidance, campus ministry, and service.

If you are interested in taking a tour of this terrific new update to our school, please contact Tim Jewett by email at Jewett@desales.co.
Taking on a New Role

This summer Principal Garrick reinforced the school's commitment to further enhance an environment of inclusivity by establishing the Office of Diversity and Student Equity. Heading up this new office is alumnus Darrien Scott '13. As the director, Darrien will act as a change-agent by providing leadership for diversity, equity and inclusion-based programming, education and initiatives throughout the school. He explains, "I am most excited about having this new position at my alma mater because it is an opportunity to create positive change within the community that has given so much to so many. The position gives our school the opportunity to listen, learn and grow together."

SFD has also partnered with Seed the Way, LLC as part of our commitment to sustain more equitable and anti-racist policies, spaces and systems. Our partnership will have an enormously positive impact on our students' ability to lead effectively in an ever changing world. To that end, because diversity is always evolving, the Office of Diversity and Student Equity will mirror its dynamic nature, demonstrating that an equitable learning environment benefits everyone.
Keeping Stallions Healthy

After working at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for 12 years, and as a clinical instructor at Mount Carmel College of Nursing and Columbus State Community College for a year, Kelli (Jacoby) Fitzpatrick '03 made a transition in her role as a nurse to work at Nationwide Insurance providing clinical support and promote employee wellness and safety. This fall, however, after learning of the need for a school nurse at her alma mater, Kelli is making one more career change. Kelli explained, "I missed working with kids and have a passion for teaching, which helped make my decision to become a school nurse a natural fit. It’s exciting for St. Francis DeSales to have a full-time nurse and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the family (again)!"
