A Message from our Parish Pastor, Father Phil
|
|
Dear Parishioners:
The revised Mass schedule went into effect last weekend with only a minor glitch or two. Attendance seemed to be a bit higher at the “regular” Masses while the 7:00 a.m. Mass at SJB drew 60 people and the 10:30 a.m. Mass at STA had 16. We’ll stay with the revised schedule through the month of October, evaluating along the way whether the new Masses are scheduled at times that work or whether there is a different time that would better serve parishioners’ needs. Stories of Grace
Flannery O’Connor is quite possibly America’s most beloved and powerful Catholic writer. Her haunting – yet beautiful – prose has for decades invited readers to encounter anew the grace of God that enters into human brokenness. Now, you’re invited to join “Stories of Grace,” a reading group that will gather throughout the month of October to explore some of O’Connor’s short stories!
We will meet on Thursday mornings (October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) from 8:45-9:45 in the Church Meeting Room. There are a few spots left! Please register by this Monday, September 28 at noon if you are interested. Click here to learn more and register.

SJB GRAB AND GO Community Meal
Seventeen volunteers prepared SJB's 2nd Grab and Go meal on September 15th. A total of 93 meals were made and 26 of those meals were delivered to homebound individuals. The meal consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit and a cookie. All food was made in SJB's commercial kitchen. Although we can't gather in person for the Welcome Table community meal this event certainly brought many smiles to all who participated!
The next SJB Grab and Go meal event is planned for Tuesday, October 20th.

Faithful Citizenship 2020
|
|
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Wisconsin Catholic Conference have put together several resources to help Catholics reflect on their duties as faithful citizens.
First in a five-part Faithful Citizenship series:
|
We pray … Merciful Father,
Thank you for inviting each of us to join in your work of building the kingdom of love, justice, and peace. Draw us close to you in prayer as we discern your call in our families and communities. Send us forth to encounter all whom you love: those not yet born, those in poverty, those in need of welcome. Inspire us to respond to the call to faithful citizenship, during election season and beyond. Help us to imitate your charity and compassion and to serve as models of loving dialogue. Teach us to treat others with respect, even when we disagree, and seek to share your love and mercy. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen

“In the Catholic Tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation. As Catholics, we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group.”
– Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship

St. Vincent de Paul Society Mission Statement: “A network of friends, inspired by the gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.”
The Conference of St. John the Baptist St. Vincent de Paul Society is celebrating it’s AWARENESS MONTH starting now through October, 2020. Could this be the time when YOU consider joining the Conference of St John the Baptist St Vincent De Paul Society?
Who we are and what we do ...
- We are volunteers who serve the poor in the city and rural areas of Plymouth.
- We are volunteers who assist at the SVdP store.
How we serve those in need ... We help people secure needs like food, rent, utility bills, along with clothes, furniture, and household items.
Where the money comes from ... The money comes from donations from the generous people at St John the Baptist and St Thomas Aquinas and proceeds from items sold at SVdP store.
Would you like to become a Vincentian? - Joining the Society of St Vincent De Paul leads you on a journey toward holiness because becoming a Vincentian is a vocation - a calling to serve God in His poor. It is an opportunity to put faith into action in a practical way, in a spiritual context. The primary call of the Vincentian life is to see Christ in those we serve. By loving those we serve in this way, we also become the face of God to our neighbors in need.

This weekend half of our Confirmation students are going on a one day retreat.
We bless them as they continue to prepare for this sacrament.
God of all ages, You send out your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, look kindly on our candidates for Confirmation as they seek to hear your voice.
As they embark on this retreat day, we pray that you send your Spirit to enlighten, guide, strengthen, console, and open their hearts as they continue to seek a closer relationship with you. Help them to truly know the deep and abiding love you have for each of them and fill them with the joy of your presence. As our community prepares these students for Confirmation, make us an instrument of your love, teach us to reverence what is holy in others and to be patient with what we do not understand. Deepen our faith and help us to pass it on. By your example we pray that you continue to guide and sustain us, and teach us the way of love.
We praise you through Christ our Lord. Amen

Please know that we rely entirely on your generous donations to continue operating and providing the ministry to serve the Lord and our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are most grateful for your continued support. Thank you!
