Christ Covenant School is a community that loves, educates, and equips our students to transform the world for Jesus Christ.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

A new parent recently asked me why we do poetry recitals? I conveyed that Poetry Recital week is one of our oldest and most celebrated annual traditions at Christ Covenant School.  I also shared that we do them because memorizing poetry turns on a student's language capability. Poetry develops reading skills and is a gateway to creative writing.  Beyond that, it gives us a chance to focus on classical works of literature and to discover the truth and beauty in God's creation. It is our way of cultivating deep roots in children that allow them to explore, grow and blossom intellectually and spiritually.

So much of what we do at CCS is centered on this notion of cultivation and Poetry Recital week is simply one more way that we tend to our orchard; by providing opportunities for children to annually immerse themselves in the beauty of the written word. Have you ever noticed the tree in the CCS logo? Every time I see that logo I am reminded of Jeremiah 17:8, "They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

Don't you think CCS is like that tree? We have situated our school closely to Christian principles that water, nurture, and sustain us even in times of difficulty. We embrace things like Poetry Recital because we see them, not as merely academic activities, but as spiritual exercises that allow us to celebrate and praise our Lord and Savior and the beauty of the world He created. That is why this year we are expanding our poetry week and we will celebrate a theme based on our school logo - the CCS tree with deep roots. We feel that the symbolism of the tree and its roots aligns with our mission and purpose to help you in raising strong, deep-rooted young men and women that will understand, celebrate, and proclaim the beauty of God's creation. We are excited for you to come join us during poetry week, March 19-23, as we take yet another step in the cultivation process.

Blessings,

Dr. Guidry
