Health Benefits of Green
Spaces

Having access to green space has several direct and indirect health benefits for residents of cities, such as reducing harmful environmental exposures to air pollution and noise. Research on this topic by Dr. Paul Villeneuve of Carleton University include studies of the Central Experimental Farm. He will discuss this work at a Science Café on March 27

Science Cafés are held at the Sunnyside Branch of the Ottawa Public Library at 1049 Bank Street. The café begins at 6:30 p.m. with a 20-minute talk followed by a 40-minute open question and answer period.

All are welcome at the March 27 session with Dr. Villeneuve. For more information, please contact the Faculty of Science by email at  [email protected]  or by telephone at 613-520-4388.

Confused Haploa and Hologram

The Confused Haploa and Hologram are two of the more than 20 species of moths seen in the Arboretum last summer by a group led by Diane LePage. Diane describes their mothing experience in the Friends of the Farm Winter Newsletter .

Diane explains that the Arboretum is a good place to look for various types of moths. The diversity of trees and shrubs can attract uncommon species. She writes about using a white sheet and painting tree trunks with a sugary compound to attract and study the moths.
