Dubai's ruler breaks ground on world's biggest concentrated solar power project
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has broken ground on the world's biggest concentrated solar power (CSP) project. The 700MW project forms the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
A consortium comprising Saudi Arabia's
ACWA Power and the Silk Road Fund, in collaboration with China's Shanghai Electric has been appointed as the main contractor for the project.

IRENA welcomes International Solar Alliance as a new platform to advance solar energy
IRENA's Director General, Mr. Adnan Z. Amin, and the Interim Director General of International Solar Alliance (ISA), Mr Upendra Tripathy, have signed a joint declaration to deepen cooperation between the two organisations to accelerate solar energy deployment. The cost of electricity generated by solar PV decreased by almost 70 percent between 2010 and 2016, but IRENA estimates that the average cost will decrease by a further 60 percent over the coming decade.

Saudi Arabia expected to break ground on first wind project this year, ACWA CEO says
Saudi Arabia's first wind project is expected to start construction this year, with the kingdom's newly established renewables agency set to launch 11 solar and wind new tenders, according to the CEO of
ACWA Power. "The wind project should not only be awarded this year, it should go to construction this year. I expect it to be awarded and in financial close this year," Paddy Padmanathan of ACWA Power, which is bidding for the 400-megawatt wind project, told reporters in Dubai.

RCREEE and GIZ publish a study on Socio-Economic Impacts of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Egypt
According to the newly released study estimations, Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) generated income for more than 8,800 individuals in 2016 and under the right framework conditions; it can increase to 65,000 by 2030 in Egypt.
This report was developed in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The first edition of the Fostering Effective Energy Transition report is part of the World Economic Forum System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Energy. GreenParking - installation of EV chargers throughout the UAE and Oman
A new network of over 200 state-of-the-art charging points has been established by GreenParking to power electric vehicles across UAE and Oman.
The GreenParking Network of EV Charging stations allows electrical car owners to travel through the Emirates and cross-border all the way to Muscat with few recharging stops, GreenParking expects to substantially increase the number of EV charging stations in UAE and Oman within the coming months.
