The Department of Labor is seeking to recover $67 million in unpaid health and safety fines 
issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration over the past decade, Secretary R. Alexander Acosta said  during a hearing March 6 on the fiscal year 2019 budget.

 
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) should work more cooperatively 
with businesses and expand compliance assistance programs to help employers have the 
safest workplaces possible, industry experts said at a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee hearing on Feb. 27.

 
David Michaels, the former head of OSHA, told the House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections that there are no substitutes for standards, inspections, and enforcement and 
that employer voluntary programs produce limited benefits at most.

Construction companies need to ensure their equipment remains compliant under the new 
EU PPE Regulation coming into force this April.

 
FireLinc, an app with inventory-tracking systems to record each PPE washing, will be 
available for download in March 2018.
