State Minimum Wage Bill Introduced
Delegates and Senators from Montgomery joined legislators from across Maryland to introduce House and Senate bills (HB166 /SB280) that would raise the minimum wage in Maryland to $15 per hour by July 2023.  Montgomery County's minimum wage is already on track to be at $15 per hour for large businesses by July 2022 and medium-sized businesses by July 2023. However, small businesses, those having ten or fewer employees, are not scheduled to hit the $15 mark until July 2024.  At this time, it is unclear how passage of the State bill will impact this schedule.

The State bill would, by July 2027, phase out the current tip credit for employers of tipped employees. It would also provide exemptions for employees of various types of businesses including organized camps, drive-in theaters, agricultural endeavors, and others.
