Congratulations to the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College class of 2019. On Thursday, 88 students were recognized during the Medallion Ceremony held in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Complex Auditorium. 14 students were the recipients of the 2019 Outstanding Thesis Award. Alumnus, Dr. Olsi Gjyshi, resident physician, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, provided words of wisdom for the graduates. 
The Northern Campus Achievement Awards were presented on April 9 to recognize outstanding students, faculty and staff on the FAU Jupiter Campus. The Osher Lifelong Learning Center also awarded 10 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. Congratulations to the 2018-19 award recipients. 
On Arbor Day 2019, Florida Atlantic University at Jupiter celebrated our 9th year as a designated Tree Campus USA. We also held a special tribute to the life of the Arboretum's namesake, Dr. Robert J. Huckshorn. The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum is named in honor of the late Dr. Huckshorn, FAU's vice president emeritus and founder of the John D. MacArthur Campus. The arboretum is planted with Florida native plants.
FAU Jupiter Jacqueline H. Fewkes, Ph.D., associate professor of Anthropology at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of FAU was recently awarded a John Hope Franklin Research Center Travel Grant Award from the Duke University Libraries. Palgrave Macmillian also recently published Dr. Fewkes newest book titled, "Locating Maldivian Women’s Mosques in Global Discourses."
CARD
Jennifer Percival, Ph.D. candidate, educational leadership & research methodology and clinical specialist for transition at the FAU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) recently won for her poster presentation at the 2019 Conference of Florida Graduate Schools (CFGS) held at Florida International University on April 18. The recognition comes on the heels of winning an award for her research during Florida Atlantic University's 10th Annual Graduate Research Day.
The FAU Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) is offering hosting a training at FAU Jupiter for mental health and other therapeutic/educational professionals who strive to provide the best interventions when serving individuals on the autism spectrum.This one-day conference features Luke Kalb, Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University School of Mental Health.
Student Spotlight
On Thursday, Bebeto Amazan graduated from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree and a concentration in cellular neuroscience, an accomplishment that almost didn’t happen in his final semester. Born to immigrant parents from Haiti, he worked to put himself through school. Hear how donors helped him make it to the finish line. 
Faculty Spotlight
Honors College Faculty Publishes Book on 'texting suicide'
Mark Tunick, Ph.D., professor of political theory and constitutional law at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, published a book titled, "Texting, Suicide, and the Law." The book discusses the legal and moral issues raised in the Michelle Carter "texting suicide" case. Carter was sentenced to 15 months in prison for encouraging her long distance boyfriend Conrad Roy to kill himself, after 2 years in which she tried to discourage him. The book was the subject of a recent article published at InTouch Weekly and is available at Google Play.

The newly formed FAU registered student organization, Council for Scholarship, Inquiry, Design, and Engagement (C-SIDE) held a special event at Scripps Research. Undergraduate students learned about Scripps Research programs and toured the laboratory facilities!

Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience
Florida Atlantic University serves more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students at sites throughout its six-county service region in southeast Florida. FAU’s John D.
