Special Tributes at
JA Business Hall of Fame Awards

Terry Stiles
Lifetime Legacy Award

Wayne Huizenga

This year, Junior Achievement of South Florida lost two dedicated friends and supporters. We hope you will join us at the JA Business Hall of Fame Celebration to pay tribute to Wayne Huizenga who championed the efforts to build JA World, the largest JA educational facility in the world. Without his support and advocacy, JA World might still be a dream. Lucky for us he enlisted leaders like this year's Lifetime Legacy Award honoree (posthumously), Terry Stiles.

April Celebrates Financial Literacy Month

In March 2018, JA USA and AIG conducted a survey with 1,000 teens regarding their personal finances. The survey showed, among many other things, that an overwhelming majority of students believe it would be valuable to take a personal finance class in high school, and most students' biggest financial concern is paying for college/student loans. Click the link below to review the entire report.

At Junior Achievement of South Florida, after completing classroom lesson of the JA Finance Park, every 8th grader in Broward County Public Schools experiences a real-life learning experience in JA Finance Park - a simulated city of storefronts representing various industries and businesses, where students apply the personal finance and career knowledge they gain in the classroom. It is one of many ways we promote financial literacy.

We will continue recognizing this important month on our social media, in the Top 5 and with the students we serve.

And the JA Fellows
Company of the Year is...

McFatter Technical High School "Fun Key"
McFatter Technical High School , mentored by a team of business leaders at BBX Capital throughout the year, including Lois Marino, Terry Frank, Randall Vitale and Nathan Dapeer. The team's product was Fun Key, an emergency fun kit that keeps children entertained for extended periods of time.

In second place was University School "Alpha Solutions," and in third place was South Broward High School "NU Cool."  All top three teams will be submitted to compete at the national level in Washington DC, where Junior Achievement of South Florida's team Alpha Necessities won the title of JA USA Company of the Year last year.

Congratulations to all 550 JA Fellows students who participated in this year's program. Over the past 18 months, 21 high school teams in Broward and south Palm Beach Counties created businesses around their team's ideas, and brought their products to market. These students faced all the same challenges each of us deal with in our businesses and learned skills they would never learn in a typical classroom. Through this experience, students not only learn skills, but they develop an entrepreneurial mindset and build confidence, perseverance and responsibility.

At the Spark Tank Finale, presented by University of Miami Health System, on Saturday, the crowd of over 250 people was wowed by keynote speaker, Peyton Robertson, a 16 year old from Fort Lauderdale, who holds five patents for inventions and is one of this year's Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees.
