"Cooperation" is a traditional Iñupiaq cultural value. Providers/Community Health Aides (CHA) can help prevent STDs and the health problems associated with STDs by listening and having open, honest conversations with their patients. Talk. Test. Treat. is one campaign to help support providers and individuals on taking specific actions to protect health. We at IKM encourage you to access resources and trainings available to help inform and support your work. Four campaigns are available around #STDMonth to help support STD Awareness and prevention in our communities. Access the campaigns.
April is Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Local organizations individually sponsored events to recognize and educate communities around child abuse and sexual assault, including the University of Alaska Anchorage and Southcentral Foundation. Southcentral Foundation organized a Child Abuse and Sexual Assault commencement walk on the Alaska Native Health Campus, and weekly lunch-and-learn workshops which involved several organizations that serve communities in Alaska in sexual assault response, advocacy and education.
Awareness months provide a time and space to come together to educate ourselves and communities about important topics. However, there are always resources available to help support providers and community members in promoting safer environments and healthy communities. ANTHC has resources around relationships such as our relationship
"safety cards," posters, a
healthy relationship movie program, and more. Please see below for more resources. For resources from IKM contact us at
