May 2019

Tomorrow, eyes across the nation will be fixed on the iconic twin spires of Churchill Downs, as we celebrate the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby. Built in 1895, the Spires are part of a National Historic Landmark and remain the racetrack's most recognizable architectural feature. They have been preserved through several massive renovation projects and, just as they continue to stand the test of time, we are excited for the return of some favorite AIA Kentucky traditions this spring!

Our summer code seminars are back again, and registration information is included below. PLUS, we are accepting submissions for both our annual design and service awards programs. These programs, plus the A'19 Conference in Las Vegas, will keep us busy throughout the summer and before you know it we'll be gathering in Cincinnati for the Ohio Valley Regional Convention.

Much has been happening and MUCH lies ahead, so we hope you will read on for additional details and announcements. We look forward to seeing each of you in the months ahead and, in the meantime, we wish you a wonderful Derby weekend!

Mentorship by Design
It's hard to believe it's already May, and a new generation of future architects will enter our profession and do great things. The Mentorship by Design (MbD) program wants to take a moment to thank those professionals and the firms that support their willingness to volunteer to serve as mentors to students throughout the year.

MbD matched 26 professionals with an equal number of students across Architecture, Interiors, Preservation and Graphic Design this year and next year we hope to do even more. The program is always evolving and changing to meet the needs of our students and the professionals who give their time. We seek your input on how to make things better and encourage you to continue to volunteer or consider volunteering for the first time. For more information, please contact Bradley A. Beatty, Assoc. AIA.

The Last Word

The next couple of months - summer and early fall - tend to be my favorite time of the year when it comes to AIA Kentucky. I love the chance to see so many of our members and colleagues in the industry when we take our code seminars on the road and gather for our annual conventions. I also love to be reminded of our members' many accomplishments as the submissions roll in for our design and service awards. Information on all of these is included above.
I hope you will consider participating in at least one of these fantastic offerings, and please continue to watch for more information about registration for our regional conference this fall. We hope to have the registration site open by the end of next month. Please save the date and stay tuned!
Cheers,
