Members, Friends and Neighbors,
|
We hope with the nicer weather that you will venture out onto our preserves. As a small organization without maintenance or stewardship staff, it can be difficult to reach all of our preserves in a timely fashion. If you happen to find any sticks or branches along the path, please move them to the side for the person coming on the trail behind you. If you find anything that you cannot move, see any type of violation like ATV usage or dumping, please call us at 860-354-0260 or email
[email protected] so we can address it. Thank you!
As always, protect yourself against ticks, wear sturdy shoes, bring water and go outside to experience the work that Naromi has completed over the last 50 years! It is here for you to enjoy!
We hope to see you at a Special Meeting on May 18. After the official business, we'll have an opportunity to visit and enjoy refreshments by Bonni Manning Catering.
Amanda Branson,
Executive Director

Annual Bird Walk - Sunday May 12
|
|
|
|
This walk has become a treasured Sherman birding tradition. The walk will be led by Angela Dimmitt, an expert birder, who can often call in the shy species.
She will tell us what species we are hearing and where to look to see it. We have seen and/or heard more that 30 different species.
Meet at 7:30 am at the Wimisink Preserve - park in the new parking area near the Wimisink Boardwalk (along the west side of Route 39 just south of the intersection with Route 55). We will spend time on the Boardwalk overlooking the Wimisink swamp for the beavers, ducks and birds of the wetlands. Then the group will car pool to one of Naromi's woodland preserves to find the birds, which like the upland open fields and woods.
Birds are most vocal in the Spring and more easily seen before the trees are fully leafed out. Almost every year we see the lovely Indigo Bunting at the Strauss preserve.
The walking will be slow and easy, so anyone can join. Bring binoculars if you have them and a bird book if you wish. As always, wear sturdy shoes, bring water/snack, take precautions against ticks, and last but not least, let us know you are coming!
SPACE IS LIMITED. Please RSVP to reserve your spot at [email protected] or call 860-354-0260

CT DEEP Passport to Parks
|
As we get closer to summer, it'll soon be time for picnics! Luckily, Connecticut residents can now save a little money doing just that.
In 2018, Connecticut created the Passport to Parks program. Through a small fee on DMV registrations and renewals, cars with Connecticut plates can now access state parks free of charge!
