Its main activities include Ship/Boatbuilding, U.S. Navy Support, Ports and Harbors, U.S. Army Support, and its largest external driver is federal spending, specifically from the Department of the Navy. Expected Navy budget spending and the   Governor's Ocean Task Force's priorities, federal spending in Mississippi should continue to increase and, in turn, will grow defense-related Blue Economy industries. This trend will continue to provide extensive diversification opportunities as companies with new technologies support Mississippi-based federal agencies, work collaboratively to address emerging needs, and develop technologies for the commercial market. MDDI is funded in part by the Department of Defense's Office of Economic Adjustment.
