Public Survey on the SRCS Superintendent's
Progress and Performance on District Goals

The San Rafael City Schools (SRCS) Board of Education is conducting a mid-year performance evaluation of the SRCS Superintendent, Dr. Michael Watenpaugh. The evaluation system is part of the Superintendent's employment agreement, and it is the sole responsibility of the Board, as the Superintendent's employer, to evaluate his performance.

As part of the evaluation, there will be an opportunity for the SRCS community to provide input through a survey. The survey will focus on Superintendent Watenpaugh's performance and progress in meeting the Superintendent's goals, which are the District's goals as outlined in the District's Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs). The LCAPs serve as the District's three-year strategic plans and have five goals, with related measurable metrics; outcomes; actions and services; and budget expenditures. (More information about the LCAP is available at www.srcs.org/lcap.)

The survey will be an opportunity to gather feedback from parents, families, students, teachers, classified staff, community partners, community members and others. It will be in English and Spanish and will be shared with the greater SRCS community by Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. It will be available on the District's website at www.srcs.org and hard copies will also be available at school sites. The survey will close on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019. The Marin County Office of Education will lead the survey distribution and analysis.

The Board will review the survey results in connection with conducting the mid-year evaluation. The Board plans to complete the Superintendent's mid-year evaluation at its meeting on Feb. 11, 2019. The Board will make its decisions about the Superintendent's performance evaluation and employment agreement based on the best interest of the District and our students.

The Board previously conducted the Superintendent's performance evaluation for 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years in August 2018. This mid-year evaluation will further inform the Board on the public's perception of the Superintendent's performance. The Superintendent's performance evaluation, as every employee's performance evaluation, is required by law to be confidential.
