Knights on Broadway
Recap of last week's production of Guys and Dolls Jr.

Lake Nona Middle School drama students' blockbuster production of Guys and Dolls Jr. was the second performance directed by the school's drama teacher, Mr. Jeffrey Nathan.
Performances were May 18th and May 19th at Lake Nona High School. One of Broadway's most hilarious shows, Guys and Dolls has been described as the perfect musical comedy. Set in mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls introduces us to colorful characters Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll," and Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; this was a great show for all ages.

Mr. Jeff Nathan started managing and directing the school's drama productions last year with the smash hit You're a Good Man Charlie Brown which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. With charm, wit, and heart from the cast, the play explored life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. This was the ideal first show for LNMS and Mr. Nathan and included many of the Guys and Dolls cast.

While Jeff will always be an actor, he also has a huge love for the academic world. Jeff has toured the country teaching workshops dealing with TV/Film, auditioning, improvisation and many more. His Film/TV credits include : Good Luck Charlie, Dexter, Tosh.O, The Big C, ABC's What Would You Do?, 30 Rock, Rescue Me, and The Sopranos.  New York stage credits: Fantasy Football the Musical? (Original Cast), Henry and Mudge (Original Cast), Wanda's World, The Playwright.  Regional/Touring Stage: Beauty and the Beast, Annie Get Your Gun, Boys Next Door, and Merry Wives of Windsor, Eight is Never Enough. Jeff is a proud member of Actors Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

Lake Nona Middle School has just enjoyed another smash hit with Guys and Dolls Jr.!!

Our LNMS Partners stepped up for Teacher Appreciation Week '18!

On behalf of the LNMS teachers and PTSA, thank you to our Partners in Education for your commitment to our middle school during Teacher Appreciation Week. The donations and active sponsorship from your organizations and employees makes such a positive impact on our teachers.

We would not have been able to put together such a wonderful week earlier this month for our Teacher Knights without our magnificent community partners. Thank you again!!!

Knight Environmental Engineers
One recent example of rigor in the classroom with Ms. Nieves . . .

Ms. Nieves had her students build a car with recycled materials. They later raced the cars and calculated velocity using the velocity formula. Since her students have been learning how to solve literal equations, an Algebra 1 topic, they manipulated the formula to verify the results. This is a jump ahead to next year's math. Way to go!

Typing Club Challenge
Students were recently presented with an end of year challenge!

OCPS LaunchPad's folder for Instructional Resources is home to the Typing Club app. Students in ICT1, ICT2, and DIT use it throughout the year to practice and test their keyboarding speed and accuracy.

  • Reggie Segovia, 75 words per minute

Summer 2018 Laptop Distribution

As we wind down the school year this week, we are already planning for the 2018-2019 school year and our implementation of digital curriculum. Administration and teachers have been meeting, training, and already building lesson plans which incorporate digital elements and the use of the district learning management system, Canvas.  We are excited about this educational shift and hope you are as well.

Students will receive their district issued laptops prior to the beginning of the school year. Please adhere to the following schedule for device distribution, including the daily last name breakdown. This schedule has been developed to minimize the amount of wait time as we process over 1,400 devices for our eager Knights. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in making this a successful first year distribution.
  • Wednesday, August 1st - 8th graders
  • Thursday, August 2nd - 7th graders
  • Friday, August 3rd - 6th graders
~ 8:30-12:00 last names beginning with A-L
~ 1:00-5:00 last names beginning with M-Z

On Saturday, August 4th we invite our Exceptional Education (ESE) and English Language Learners (ELL) students to a more individualized experience.  From 9:00-1:00pm, additional resources will be present to help students through the process of receiving and setting up their laptops.

Additionally, make-up days for those who were not able to attend on their assigned dates are as follows:
  • Saturday, August 4th- 1:00-3:00
  • Wednesday, August 8th- 2:00-5:00
** All dates are tentative so please continue to check the LNMS website for any possible changes.

General Information regarding distribution:
  • All students should report to the cafeteria upon arrival.
  • Parents are welcome to attend with their students, but it is not required.
  • Photos for IDs will be taken if the student did not turn in their ID from the 2017-2018 school year and previously collected IDs will be returned. New students will receive IDs, this includes incoming 6th graders and any other new students.
  • Laptop covers will be sold for $20.00 cash in the cafeteria.  They are also available for purchase through Schoolpay.beginning August 1st.
  • Vendors, including PTSA and the PE department, will be available in the cafeteria so it's a great time to sign forms, sign up to volunteer, and buy PE uniforms!
  • Snack items will be available for sale.
  • Please bring your patience and smiles with you!

Monday's Motivational Moment

ON SUCCESS

A success is one who decided to succeed -
and worked.

A failure is one who decided to succeed -
and wished.

A decided failure is one who failed to decide -
