  • As a first initiative of the newly established NJHSA Lay Leadership Committee, a brief survey has been developed so that the Network may garner data on needed topics of interest for the Lay Leadership of Network Member Agencies.  To help with these efforts to meet the needs of Lay Leadership (Board Chairs, Board Members, etc.), we would like executives to share this survey with the members of your Board: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7YJNBMC The responses collected from this survey will help to inform the content of future Network offerings which would be developed specifically to meet the needs of lay leadership of NJHSA Member Agencies. Please direct questions to  Anna Feldman, Chair, NJHSA Lay Leadership Committee or to Reuben Rotman, CEO, NJHSA.  Many thanks, in advance, for your assistance with this important effort.

Network Advocacy Updates

Re-position your agency and align yourself with The
NET WORK to advance causes and policy.

  • NJHSA Advocates for LGBT Older Adults and Protecting SNAP Benefits
An important part of advocacy sometimes lies with engaging federal agencies, as opposed to Congress. This month, the Network joined with The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) to provide comments on two proposed federal rules which would impact populations our agencies serve: (1) letter in support of data collection on the needs of transgender older adults in the Administration for Community Living's (ACL) new longitudinal National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP) -- In short, the survey measures the efficacy of federally-funded aging programs like Meals on Wheels in reaching the most vulnerable populations in our country (like LGBT older adults); and (2) letter in opposition to a proposed rule by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to impose even stricter limits on the amount of time childless adults (i.e. adults not raising minor children) can receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which could result in an end to food assistance for hundreds of thousands of Americans.

  • NJHSA joined JFNA's sign-on letter opposing H.R. 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act, along with 55 national Jewish. These 55 organizations represent the diverse heart of the organized Jewish community including all of the main religious streams; rabbinical and cantorial organizations; those specifically focusing on disability inclusion and ones promoting social justice and civil rights, social service networks; groups working with young people and older adults; and many others. Click here to view the letter which was sent to Senators McConnell and Schumer. All Senate offices were copied. A press release was also disseminated.
