New research, published in the journal Science, suggests this single ancient language resulted in human civilization - a Diaspora - as well as advances in art and hunting tool technology, and laid the groundwork for all the world's cultures.

Growing Crystals Science Experiment for Kids
Editor's Note:  Simple science projects are perfect for working on conversation and expressive language skills!

Do you remember those super retro crystal garden growing kits when you were growing up? I remember my cousin having one and I was so jealous as it was just so cool. My kids are fascinated by crystals too - I mean, what isn't there to love about something so colourful and sparkly?!! Fortunately growing crystals isn't difficult to do - even without a kit. Using just two ingredients, this crystal science experiment makes a great first project for kids interested in growing crystals.

Peds Tx Corner:   The Importance of Creative Play & Art in Child Development
[Source: Colors of Play]

Children are born with imaginations. Adults and particularly parents should nurture children's imaginations and rejoice in their creative minds. When we allow children to use their imagination, it is helpful and there are many benefits of pretend play in child development.

School Psych Corner:   Anger Isn't a Mental Illness. Can We Treat It Anyway?
Editor's Note:  Thank you to School Psyched, Your School Psychologist for sharing.

[Source: Slate]

"There is an identifiable population that is extremely dangerous, volatile, and likely to commit violent crimes, but is not diagnosable as mentally ill. The pattern we see time and again is that people who act out in violent ways are men who already have an established pattern of being threatening, cruel, and violent. They often have been perpetrators of domestic violence-indeed, felony domestic violence is the best predictor of murder. They have a chronic pattern of failure to modulate their aggressive feelings. Violent crimes are committed by violent people, almost always men who are lonely, isolated, blame others for their problems, and lack the skills to manage their anger."
