Principal Message:  April 12, 2018
D ear Parents,

We have had a great week of learning at Lovejoy Elementary.  Our students are learning about their brain and having strong social emotional health. Click here for a great video on "Why do we Lose Control of our Emotions?"
We are very excited about our campout tomorrow night.  For those of you attending, you will be receiving a special email from me with last minute details and our bad weather plan.   We will have our campout rain or shine!   If you have signed up for our campout, and you have not received special campout emails from me recently, please email me or text me so I can make sure that you have all the information that you will need for the campout.
As always, if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
All My Best,

A Note From Transportation
School transportation is a privilege and bus safety regulations must be followed. School principals are responsible for the student while on the bus and reserve the right to resolve discipline problems that occur between home and the school. Bus drivers are charged with maintaining proper student conduct which may include assigning individual seats. Students are expected to conduct themselves on buses in the same manner as in the classroom.

With the continued growth of our community, bus ridership has also grown. The majority of our afternoon routes are at or near bus capacity. Therefore, transportation will not be able to accommodate students ridding the bus home with other when the student is not assigned to the bus route. This would include sending your child home on another student's bus for play dates, sleep over's, group projects, sports practices, etc.

In the rare instance that you have a last minute emergency and need your child to ride the bus home with someone else, please call your child's school to get permission so the school can inform the bus driver of the change.

Final Box Tops Contest
Each unexpired Box Top is worth 10 cents for our school! Think of those little Box Tops as dimes just waiting to be collected! Simply clip the Box Tops from the items you already have (making sure that the product code and expiration date are visible), put them in a zip top baggie with your teacher's name on it, and drop them in either of the big BOX TOP collection boxes we have near the office or the library. The homeroom with the most submissions gets a popsicle party! Our final deadline for this year is May 4th.

Lovejoy Parent Authors Book
Susan Hoemke, a Lovejoy parent, has authored a book titled, Healing Scarred Hearts which will be released on May 8th.  Following is information shared by Susan:

"After we lost our son Hayden in 2014 to drug overdose and our family was impacted the 8 years as he struggled with addiction and personality disorder, I began to feel the need to educate other families about what all we learned. I have been working with Kathy Stone to build a better drug awareness program. In 2016, when the Opioid crisis made the news, I decided to write a book and in 2017 Brown Books Publishing accepted my manuscript and this began the process to bring our story to the frontline. Healing Scarred Hearts will be released May 8th with hopes to bring education and healing to the complicated issue of substance abuse, addiction and overdose. My book also shares the crisis of legal issues that many times are associated with kids and substance abuse."
