The mission of Saint Stanislaus, a Catholic boarding and day school for young men, is to form each student to Gospel values by nurturing his spiritual, academic, and physical growth in a place of sanctuary structured to embody the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.

Nancy Gex Artigues to become Saint Stanislaus Dean of Academics
Saint Stanislaus is pleased to announce that Mr. Gary Blackburn, principal, has appointed Mrs. Nancy Gex Artigues academic dean for the 2018 - 2019 school year.

Mrs. Artigues has worked in the Bay-Waveland School District since 2015. Prior to her time in the Bay-Waveland School District, she worked at St. Clare Elementary and then Holy Trinity Elementary from 2002 to 2015. A graduate of Our Lady Academy, Artigues earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in education from Tulane University and a master's degree in education at the University of New Orleans.

Artigues is married to Ronnie Artigues, Jr., a 1984 graduate of Saint Stanislaus. Their son, Jonathon, graduated from Saint Stanislaus in 2015. Mrs. Artigues replaces Mr. Thomas Mavor who is returning to Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. We are excited to welcome Nancy to the Saint Stanislaus faculty as academic dean.

We are confident that her many years of experience in Catholic education as well as being a mother and wife of graduates make her well-suited for this role.

Been There: Lessons Through Experience
Reconnecting with Saint Stanislaus Alumni

"Show your work."

It's good practice, but in reality how many of us do it?

Many people waste time and energy networking instead of sharpening their skills. But being competent is the only thing that really earns you clout or connections.

The mission of Saint Stanislaus, a Catholic boarding and day school for young men, is to form each student to Gospel values by nurturing his spiritual, academic, and physical growth in a place of sanctuary structured to embody the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.

The mission is the work. At the core of this mission are the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, the staff and faculty, our dedicated alumni and to an extent our current student body. Beyond the storied halls of Saint Stanislaus, it's imperative that we all "show our work" in everyday life. Life doesn't get easier -- we just get tougher. And those who associate with Saint Stanislaus and live the "Rock-a-Chaw" way know that we are held to higher standards. It may be an intimidating responsibility, but at the end it's an amazing opportunity.

There's a great article about the late Tom Benson and his connection to Saint Stanislaus that you can read here. Saint Stanislaus is proudly represented and the article captures how to "show your work" through faith.
Dorm Life
An ongoing series, Dorm Life chronicles the lives of our boarding students here at Saint Stanislaus.

The boarding Rocks have been taking full advantage of the brand new fire pit, barbecue area and pavilion this spring. Students, prefects and some teachers enjoyed one of the largest barbecues of the year recently.

Students also went to see Anthony Davis and the playoff-bound New Orleans Pelicans take on the Houston Rockets. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

Rock-A-Chaws + Eagle Scouts = Success

Three Saint Stanislaus students were recently awarded the highly coveted Eagle Scout nomination. Chase Johnson, Nickolas Clogher, and Drew West took part in what's called the Court of Honor.

Each student must start working on badges as soon as he transitions from Cub Scout to Boy Scout. It typically takes between five and six years for a scout to earn the rank of Eagle. The final requirement to obtain Eagle Scout status is a community service project. Upon completion of the project, scouts go before a board of review. The board interviews the scouts, and the scouts explain their projects and get tested on what they have learned in their scouting years.

Drama Club asks for "Check, Please!"

The Drama Club presented a spring variety show as part of the fundraising efforts for St. Anne's Mission in Klagetoh, Ariz. as well as the Amatongas Misison in Mozambique.

The drama portion of the evening included an original one-act play called "Guys & Dolls" created by Drama Club members from Saint Stanislaus and OLA and sketches from the play "Check, Please!," a comedic show about bad blind dates.

Members of the SSC Band contributed as well. International student and flutist Shuang "Sam" Chen performed a selection from a Chinese opera. Brothers Joshua and Joel Grumme performed a duet. Rounding out the show were feats of prestidigitation by Magic Club members Luke Beyer and William Quave.

A full house made up of students, friends, and families helped to make the evening a success.

A West Coast Rock-a-Chaw Reunion

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A couple of Rockachaws had a special reunion recently -- on a baseball diamond here. Former Saint Stanislaus star pitcher Greer Holston did a stint on the mound when the Ole Miss Rebels played a three-game series against the California State University-Long Beach Dirt Bags the weekend of March 2.

Irv Cuevas '61, who lives in Seal Beach, just a few miles away, took in a couple games and spent time with both Holston and Ole Miss's long-time head baseball coach Mike Bianco. Ole Miss, ranked 9th nationally going into the series, won two of the three games.

Holston, from Long Beach, MS, attended Stanislaus 7th through 11th grade before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. As a Rock-a-Chaw, Holston was named best right-handed pitcher in Mississippi and 2015 4A Player of the Year in Mississippi after leading Saint Stanislaus to a state championship. Holston is a general business major at Ole Miss, and plans to be a nutritionist following his baseball career.

Cuevas, a University of Southern Mississippi grad and now retired, spent almost 40 years as a television news journalist with stops in Hattiesburg, Meridian, Biloxi, Atlanta, NBC News-Burbank, and KABC-TV News in Los Angeles. He's now on the Boards of Directors of the Newport Beach Navy League and the Notre Dame Club of Orange County and is also active in his Catholic parish and Knights of Columbus council.

His son, Jason, daughter-in-law, Sarah, and grandchildren, Olivia and Alex, reside in Columbus, Ga.
