Mad about the saints!
by James Deaton

As Holy Week approached, many Michiganders were concerned how a certain team from Ann Arbor would fare in a certain college basketball tournament. Here at Grace, our minds were set on higher things, heavenly realms, as we waited on pins and needles to see who would win Lent Madness.

This online discipline-er, competition-started on February 15 with thirty-two saints of the church, in the style of March Madness, and now we're down to one. The winner of this year's worldwide competition, the recipient of the coveted Golden Halo, is Anna Alexander.  Click here to continue reading...

Let's Communicate!
The Communications Committee is working to upgrade our internal and external communications structures.  We want to upgrade our committee also! Do you like to make things happen? Do you have above average internet skills? We are particularly interested in at least one youth member to participate on this committee. Come to the next Communications Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 15th at 9am, to see if it's a fit for you. Questions? Email Kelly Ignace at [email protected]

Does your Bible look like this?

This Bible is less than ten years old, and its owner clearly has an intimate relationship with it. Not only are the covers held together with shipping tape, the inside is highlighted, underlined, and marked with various bookmarks, scraps of paper and ribbons. This Bible is read and consulted on a daily basis. As Christians, perhaps we should ask ourselves what in our lives is this well-loved? My Bible doesn't look like this - yet. What does your Bible look like?

Support PoWeR! Book Bags
April 16 at Little Fleet 6-8 pm

Soup and Bread , the brainchild of Little Fleet (448 E. Front St), to keep locals engaged and contributing to local charities over the winter months, has selected PoWeR! Book Bags to receive donations from April's event. The soup is donated by local chefs, and bread is donated by 9 Bean Rows. The meal is free - a donation to benefit a local charity (this month it is PoWeR! Book Bags) is appreciated. This is the last Soup and Bread meal for the season.

Your donation helps PoWeR! Book Bags (Play, Write, Read) support literacy for children in the Grand Traverse region. The group distributes bags of books and writing materials to children whose families visit local food pantries. The children (or parents/grandparents) select a book to keep at each visit. In the last two years PBB has given away 38,000 books and 7,000 (mostly handmade) bags. Our program site at the Grace Food Pantry has given away 206 bags and 575 books in the 10 months we have been participating. Donations of supplies for the bags are always welcome - there is a box in our parish hall (new or gently used books, paper - which will be made into small notebooks- and crayons).

Please join us on Monday, April 16 at Little Fleet, and bring a friend! We'll enjoy a delicious meal and an evening out with a good purpose. Questions? Contact Penny Campo-Pierce, site supervisor, at 231-590-1320.

Grace hosting at Safe Harbor for one night
April 17

Unseasonably cold weather has prompted our local overnight homeless shelter to extend its season for an extra week. Grace Church has volunteered to host Safe Harbor one of those days--from Tuesday afternoon, April 17 to Wednesday morning, April 18. We have had a very good response to our volunteer requests, but we still need one more MALE OVERNIGHT VOLUNTEER for April 17. If you can spend the night to chaperone Safe Harbor, please contact Donna Olendorf at [email protected]  or 586.781.3260. Thank you and God Bless.

Lent Madness Championship party

The whole parish is invited to celebrate the end of Lent Madness as we crown our champion, Anna Alexander. Even if you didn't participate in Lent Madness, you're welcome to join us for food and fellowship! Please bring a favorite party snack (salty or sweet), and we'll provide pizza and drinks. There will be fun games for all ages, and we'll get a chance to learn a bit about the saints of the church, including the saints of Grace. Please RSVP on the easel in the Commons.

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
