PCL sponsorships available starting Friday, May 31st
The Levy has a limited number of sponsorships available through its Event Sponsorship program to help underwrite event costs in areas related to PCL funding areas. The Levy will distribute 10 $500 sponsorships for events from July through December 2019 on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Friday, May 31st. Details can be found on the Levy website. We want your feedback via Small Grants Fund Survey
The Levy is exploring creation of a Small Grants Fund as part of the upcoming funding round. W e would love to hear your feedback on the current outline for the fund, and then please take a 1-minute survey  .

4th annual Greater Portland Young Parent Fair
The Greater Portland Young Parent Fair, sponsored by Squires, Empowering Teen Dads, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, May 23rd at KingPins Family Entertainment Center, 3550 SE 92nd.
 
This is an opportunity for parents ages 25 and younger to connect with multiple community resources, employment and education opportunities while having fun! Info in English HERE. Info in Spanish HERE.
PCL Programs Making a Difference:
IRCO hunger relief program
Helping others is a family affair for Heather Franklin and two of her daughters. The mother of six is a long-time volunteer at IRCO's food pantry at Gilbert Park Elementary, where her 4-year-old daughter, Tuesday, assists with sorting the food and other misc. tasks. Meanwhile, Heather's 15-year-old daughter Shalo works after-school weekly at the  IRCO-operated food pantry at Lincoln Park Elementary.
The ninth grader at David Douglas High School  has wonderful ideas about changing the world.

mom and they filled their car trunk with the leftovers, which they then proceeded to transform into a tasty meal of stuffed burritos, which were wrapped in foil and transported to the homeless camp near 92nd and Flavel. Since that first outing they have repeated this generous act several times using leftover food that otherwise might have gone unused. Thank you to Shalo, Heather and Tuesday for their dedication! 

The PCL-funded IRCO hunger relief program goals are to  to increase emergency and supplemental food access to families and communities of IRCO SUN schools.

Upcoming AC meeting scheduled for May 13th
The AC will meet from 2 - 4 p.m. Monday, May 13th in City Hall Council Chambers.  Agendas will be sent to the Levy database a few days before the meeting.
Early Childhood News
It's time to sign up for kindergarten
Do you work with families with children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1st? If they are heading to kindergarten they should sign up by June 1st. Families should sign up at their neighborhood school in the next few months to give children a good start, connect to summer activities, and get access to free resources. School offices close for the summer, so don't wait. To identify your school, call 2-1-1 or text "MYSCHOOL" to 898211

Who We Are

The Portland Children's Levy was created by city voters in 2002 and overwhelmingly renewed for the third time by the electorate in May 2018. Funding for the new five-year Levy begins July 1, 2019 and runs through June 30, 2024.

The Levy is supported through a property tax paid by City of Portland homeowners that generates $21 million toward investments in proven programs in areas of Early Childhood, After School, Mentoring, Child Abuse Prevention/Intervention, Foster Care and Hunger Relief. The Levy reaches over 8,000 children and their families annually; in addition, Levy-funded hunger relief services provide food to over 11,000 children and 9,167 parents/caregivers annually.

The Levy is annually audited and administrative costs do not exceed 5 percent.
