This Weekend at St. Paul's
This Sunday starts the final opportunity for all youth and adults who wish to be confirmed to meet with Father Stan in the Garden Room at 9:30. For others, Heidi will lead a conversation at 9:30 in the Conference Room about sharing our faith stories. All are welcome. The nursery will be available, and Godly Play Sunday School will begin at 10:20.  Also - it's Birthday & Graduation Sunday - so come share blessings and treats with our Grads & May-borns at, and following, the 10:30 service.
Rector's Notes:
Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Easter continues to unfold and we continue to celebrate the mystery of the Resurrection.  This coming Sunday we will remember this mystery as we also celebrate graduation transitions in the lives of many in our parish community.  Graduation is a time to remember our calling to be servants of God's Creation.  I am reminded of the words of Jesus in the reading from John for Sunday, "Peter, do you love me?"  Peter, puzzled assures Jesus of his love.  Then Jesus commands him, "Feed my sheep!"  Love, agape in the Greek, is expressed in serving others.  God calls us to be servants of the creation.  Three times Jesus affirms this for Peter (and all who have listened to this part of the Gospel).  If you love me you must act on your love.  Graduation and other movements through stages in our lives are wonderful opportunities to reaffirm our own understandings of our baptismal calling to faithful living--living our baptism in the world by being servants of God's creation.  I congratulate all who are celebrating academic milestones and remind them to attach reminders of their spiritual calling to these times of transition from one moment to the next in their lives. rsr+

Help Wanted - Are you Feeling Called?

Backstage Hands Needed at Pantry

Many of us have seen, and been a part of, the food distribution at our Pantry. It is humbling, hard and holy work.  But there is a very important part of our Pantry ministry that goes mostly unseen, and it's there that we can use your help.  To save money , where possible and practicable , o ur Pantry acquires bulk supplies of essential items for our pantry clients. It takes time and care to divide-up these supplies for distribution. It includes things like  rice, pasta, dry beans , laundry   and dish detergent, hair care supplies, frozen foods, etc. If you are able to come and help us sort these into shareable sizes, please let us know . Thanks so much. Richard Scarritt , Easom Bond and Sterling Roath .

We need more caring
hands on-deck in the
St. Paul's Parish Nursery.
Each Sunday we have two paid staff persons caring for our youngest (and cutest!) members. All are required to take the "Safeguarding God's Children" training, pass a background check, and love our kids and their families. We also occasionally need nursery caregivers during the week for special meetings, worship services, or events. Please speak with Catie Brouse if you are ready to join the team. Service hours for high school students are available, but the training requirements remain. Thank you!

Coffee Hour Hosts

May 5 - Birthday Sunday
May 12 - Becky Forsyth & Ellen Haden
May 19 - ?you?
May 26 - ?you?

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact Alison.  Dates are available.

All wise, all loving God, we thank you for all your gifts to us; for making us, for saving us, and for calling us to be your people. Look with love on our graduates and bless them as they complete their years of study. May your Spirit give them many skills and talents and help them to use these gifts for your glory and for the good of all people.
In your kindness, guide them along paths both bumpy and smooth.
We ask these blessings through Christ our Lord. Amen

 2019 Stewardship

Every year, in response to the many and great gifts God freely bestows upon us, we are all invited to make a pledgeto the financial support of St. Paul's Parish.
Our gifts become a witness in the world of this parish's response to God's call to us to be a faithful community serving all God's creation.  You can use the link below to make your pledge or contact the  Church Office  for a paper pledge form.
Thank you for your support financially, for your participation, and by remembering our efforts in your prayers.

verse of the week
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

                                                           - Ezekiel 36:26

voice of the week
Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
                                                            - Rumi

prayer of the week
Oh God who brings freedom out of chaos, be present in our collective imaginations as we seek to do the work You have called us to do. Grant us creativity and rootedness in the face of systems of injustice that seek to wear us down.
Amen.

thought for the week
Thomas Merton
Sunrise is an event that calls forth solemn music in the very depths of our nature, as if one's whole being had to attune itself to the cosmos and praise God for the new day, praise him in the name of all the creatures that ever were or ever will be. I look at the rising sun and feel that now upon me falls the responsibility of seeing what all my ancestors have seen, in the Stone Age and even before it, praising God before me. Whether or not they praised him then, for themselves, they must praise him now in me. When the sun rises each one of us is summoned by the living and the dead to praise God.
