AIA Dayton was a proud participant in Team Building Night, the Dayton Builder’s Exchange annual event to recognize the best in the Dayton area construction industry. Brian McAlexander, AIA, President, presented a PowerPoint presentation of the 2018 Focus on Design awards winners, after which he presented a check from AIA Dayton to Tom Maultsby, president of United Way of the Greater Dayton Area.
Several AIA Dayton members received recognition during the event, including awards from the Masonry Institute of Dayton to
Jason Sheets, AIA, MODA 4 Design, for the Alter Conservatory of Arts Project;
Tim Bement, AIA, App Architecture, for the Kettering Fire Station project, and
Michael Myers, Fanning & Howey Associates, for the Urbana PK-8 School project. Each received an Excellence in Masonry Award.
The Builder’s Exchange Architectural Award went to the Grandview Emergency Room Trauma Center Addition and Renovation and Pinnacle Architects. Congratulations to all the winners!

AIA Dayton Announces the 2019 Focus on Design Awards Program
A Save the Date is out for the Friday, November 1 Focus on Design Awards Program at the Grande Hall Liberty Tower in downtown Dayton. This year’s program is open to projects completed since January 1, 2015. The program rules will be released in July and submissions will be due mid-September. This year’s program will be a luncheon from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. More details will follow.

Call for Entries for the 2019 CANstruction Program
Be a part of a community effort that is not only a fun design and build competition, but also raises awareness and food for the benefit of the Foodbank of Greater Dayton.
The build is October 2 at the Dayton Mall and
teams have until July 19 to register.
Last year, the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors brought CANstruction back to the Miami Valley, and AIA Dayton was a proud sponsor of the event. Three AIA Dayton teams participated in the event – Levin-Porter Associates, App Architecture, and CESO, with CESO winning the People’s Choice Award.
