MSED Students Tour to Madison County and Nissan
Madison County Economic Development Authority, the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) of Mississippi State University, and Nissan hosted the Student Economic Development Association (SEDA) where they learned about the great economic development projects going on in Madison County. Joey Deason, the MCEDA Executive Director, and Lauren Scheel Business Development Manager, discussed with the students how their high performing economic development organization operates.  Steve Puryear of CAVS briefed the students on their work with analyzing and developing tools to study the economic impact for the Mississippi waterway system. The Nissan Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant with a workforce of over 6,400, 4.7 million square feet under roof, and covering  1,038 acres has an annual capacity of 450,000 vehicles including the Altima, Frontier, and Titan.  The plant uses advanced manufacturing techniques and just-in-time manufacturing to maintain its high efficiency in producing transportation equipment.
CLTT's Defense Export Study Presented During the 97th Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting
CLTT's Research Professor, Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang, and Associate Professor, Dr. Chad Miller presented their Defense Export study titled "An Investigation of the Shipping Route of the U.S. Exports of Military End Use Products" during the 97th Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington DC on January 10, 2018. Based on 150 Bills of Lading records, this study investigated the freight flows of U.S. exports of military end use products to understand safer, more reliable, and cost-effective means of moving these products. Special thanks to our Graduate Assistants Dongxin Lin and Brandon Nettles for their great help on this study. The presentation of the study will be available soon on TRB's website. For details about key findings and study limitations, please contact Dr. Yuanyuan Zhang at [email protected].
