A message from the President & Founder, Lauren Genkinger
I often wonder why any one has to "rescue" a golden retriever . . . who in their right mind would ever abandon one? We, who own them, spend thousands of dollars caring for ours and those of us who have helped one travel to the bridge would do anything God asked of us to have them back with us. How can anyone throw one out? Unfortunately, there are many heartless people on this planet, but fortunately, there are people like us who view goldens like a potato chip - you can't have just one. I'm down to 3 myself but I know that will be short-lived. Once you have 4 - it will happen again. But my message today is "take time to spend with your own golden today", because I just finished building a cemetary for the 5 I have lost since I started a rescue to save them.
Also, please think about coming to the Golden Gala to celebrate the over 4,000 goldens we have rescued and found new homes for. The Gala is our largest fundraiser so it is the most important event we have every year. Without the money it brings in, we could not continue.
Thank you for loving this goofy, loving breed of dog.

Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is becoming more prevalent in golden retrievers. Dr. Joshua Stern, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Cardiology) at UC Davis, starting seeing a pattern and recognized that many cases were due to dietary taurine deficiency in golden retrievers fed grain free diets.
