On April 11th,
AB 1871 (Bonta) passed the the Assembly Education Committee with four aye votes. CFPA thanks Assemblymember Bonta for authoring the bill and for capturing the heart of the issue at
Wednesday's hearing with this quote:
"Kids need to have a meal...I put that in the category of fundamental, foundational needs...whether you're in a traditional public school or a public charter school."
The bill now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee, chaired by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzales Fletcher.

SB 900 (Wiener & Arambula): One Step Closer to Doubling the 'Fresh' in CalFresh!
On April 10,
SB 900 (Wiener & Arambula), the
California Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot Project bill passed the Senate Human Services Committee
with unanimous, bi-partisan support on consent. CFPA thanks Senator Wiener and Assemblymember Arambula for championing the issue of healthy food affordability as well as all of the bill's supporters for lending their voices to this important opportunity.
There is still time to submit a letter of support for SB 900 before its next hearing in the Senate Agriculture Committee on April 17th.
CFPA and SPUR are supporting a
budget request to fully fund the California Fruit and Vegetable EBT Pilot initiative in seven communities statewide.
If your organization would like to support this related budget request to Double the 'Fresh' in CalFresh, please add your organization's logo to a coalition letter as this request heads to the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services next week.
