NACMS NEWSLETTER
November 2018
Thanksgiving is the time of year for us to stop and be grateful for our many blessings. At the top of our list is our gratitude to all of you who support and encourage our work here at NACMS.

We continue to be grateful for the beatification of Blessed Adèle and are offering her biography , written by Fr. Joseph Stefanelli, SM, for our November book sale.

Sr. Gabby Bibeau interviewed Sr. Marie Abmayr, about her experience as one of the first U.S. Marianist Sisters for our "Sharing Our Marianist Stories" podcast. We are very grateful for her courage and dedication to her vocation.

The 2018/10 MSP 2.0 program "The Mother of Jesus is Here: Building Today's Marian Church" has begun. We are grateful for the members of this year's cohort and are excited to see what they discover as they journey together, building a community of scholars.
by Joseph Stefanelli, SM

Born in 1789, the same year the French Revolution began, Adèle de Batz de Trenquelléon was a woman of great zeal. She empowered many women to grow in faith, community, and service to others while deepening their relationship with God. This biography by Father Joseph Stefanelli, SM, allows the reader to truly know Adèle by walking through her childhood experiences, her spiritual journey, her visioning of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate, and her faith-filled years. Father Stefanelli uses her abundant letters to support the successes and challenges of her life's ministry. Her collaboration with Blessed William Joseph Chaminade and Marie Thérèse de Lamourous was fundamental for the Marianist Family. Father Stefanelli includes significant details of their shared mission. This biography offers an in-depth look at Adèle's spirituality, personality, and the numerous ways she responded to God's call.

"What you think and what God thinks are two different things."

In this episode of "Sharing Our Marianist Stories" Sr. Gabby Bibeau (the newest member of the FMI) interviews Sr. Marie Abmayr (one of the original U.S. FMIs). During this fascinating discussion we hear how a young woman from Pittsburgh ended up sailing on a ship to attend her novitiate in Spain to become a Marianist Sister. We invite you to listen to her vocation story ... she is a wonderful example of following God's call, no matter where it leads you.

2018/19 MSP 2.0
“A Marian Church remains standing by the Cross. It is exposed, and vulnerable to the ridicule of the executioners. But it remains upright beside the Cross.”
- Sister Marie-Luce Baillet, FMI

We are all called to remain standing at the Cross in some manner. The challenges of our modern world make that a challenge. Knowing that we are not alone, that we are standing with Mary in a community of believers, we are filled with hope.
What is a Marian Church? How does the concept of a Marian Church resonate with the Marianist charism? How can we, as Marianists, contribute to the building of such a Church?

We have invited participants in the 2018/19 Marianist Studies Program (MSP) 2.0 to grapple with these questions, to explore how the Marianist Charism offers hope to our Church, and world and to consider ways to meet the challenge of proclaiming “The Mother of Jesus is Here.”

We are excited to share the names of this year's MSP 2.0 cohort:

Diane Browne, Karen Brenner, Father Ted Cassidy, Margaret Lisjak, Joan McGuinness-Wagner, Al Prendergast, Father JosephRaj Rymond, Brother Tom Spring, Sister Nicole Trahan, A. J. Wagner, and Brother Stan Zubek.

Your prayers are welcome to support this year's MSP 2.0 cohort as they begin this journey together.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
O God, we thank you for this earth, our home;
For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
